DH, REA, or AMSCO?

Which book should I get for APUSH?

For the AP test? DH. Nothing else.

Yup. Direct Hits is all you need.

thank you for your suggestions!

is DH all i need to self-study?

No I disagree with just DH. I used AMSCO and DH and that got me a 5. In addition, i was never good at history so this would be a great accomplishment. I’m not kidding, the AMSCO is your textbook and is very much worth the money. DH is great for the month up to the ap exam. Don’t doubt me on this. The two combinations are a guaranteed 5. Good luck!!

If you are self studying, then AMSCO is what you need, along with DH. Direct Hits is if you have taken the class, IMO.

^ I agree.
My friend took regular US History, made a C both semesters (I guess she’s not a history person), but got a 5 after studying with nothing but my DH book.

If you’re just looking to get a 5, then get DH. If you want a 5, really enjoy history, and want to supplement with your APUSH class, then get DH + AMSCO.

how about REA’s book or REA crash course

Despite contrary belief, simply buying and reading DH does not guarantee you a 5. It’s not a magical book. It’s more of an outline than anything else that highlights important frequently-tested information.

Back in April of 2011 people were buying DH to read like a month before the exam. This was because AMSCO wasn’t really feasible with less than a month before the test.

It’s September - everybody here should be getting AMSCO. AMSCO is an actual textbook that details and explains the history, rather than just stating facts. I enjoyed reading it because I enjoy history. If you know just how things happened in your head, you can use deductive reasoning based on your knowledge of history on multiple choice and free response questions. You can’t really do that with memorized facts and dates. You have to understand it, you have to know how and why things happened.

Don’t bother getting DH until you’re pretty much done with the course. It’s good to review and recap but with the amount of time you all have, AMSCO is your best bet for now.

I understand this post is kind of pro-AMSCO and anti-DH. Don’t get me wrong, DH is an amazing resource which helpful advice and information, and the author is a great guy who answers questions on his own facebook page. I just find DH to be overrated to the point where people are saying to not even bother with AMSCO. AMSCO is 700+ pages, DH is about 200-300, and the AMSCO pages are bigger and smaller text. There’s a lot more information.

People who used only DH and got a 5 probably had a really good teacher as well, and are good essay writers.
