Does anyone know how selective the DHC process is? Do they really just read the student responses and decide to admit the student to the program or not? I think I heard somewhere that getting in isnt dependent on high school scores and grades, but I’m not sure. I just want to know if there are gonna be a ton of people applying and I need to step my game up with answering these questions, haha.

I’ve heard statistics about their selectivity, but I can’t remember them now. Sorry! That said, I don’t think they’re incredibly selective–maybe a 50% admittance rate? From what I’ve seen, most students don’t bother to apply when they see there’s an essay component, so they don’t get as many applications as you’d expect.

Yes, the responses are all that they look at. In fact, they seem to care more about the content of the responses than their actual quality.

I was thinkin about applying…is it worth it to be DHC? i read that we have to take a 4 unit freshman seminar and other classes…are they worth it?

I’m just finishing my first year in the DHC, so I don’t have that much experience with the program, but I think it’s worth it.

The classes have been a bit of a mixed bag–some are great, some are kind of mediocre–and the program seems fairly disorganized. But, it’s a lot easier to make friends in DHC classes because they’re so much smaller than normal classes, and it’s great to be able to interact more closely with professors.

Even were none of that the case, DHC is worth it for the priority registration. DHC students get to register on the first day of registration, which means you’ll never have any trouble getting the classes you want.

haha this is mainly the reason im even looking to join it, to be honest.

Haha, yeah, I think most DHC people are just in it for the priority registration.

And, yes, xcrunner1478, you can be in DHC, but not live on the DHC floor in Kearney. But, Kearney is super nice and new, and everyone seems to have a lot of fun on the DHC floor, so I don’t think it would be a bad place to live.

If we just got accepted into the DHC program, when do we get the priority registration? Do we get it for fall quarter or can we not get it until winter?
