Hey u guys! I just sent in my yale scea thru DHL. It cost sooo much. I never knew they charged by the single sheet of paper. Anyways Im thinking that I'll send my other apps in by snail mail. Do any other intels do this? Or is it just to risky and unsafe? I mean I got all my college mail here so y should they not receive my apps
right? Also ill probably apply to about 9-12 more schools (well.. hopefully none if I get into Yale but thts a different story..) so if I do send everything by DHL it'll cost like 2000 dollars just for apps. Thats sooo crazy. You could feed a family for that much money for like a month. Thats seriously insane.
So do any of you do this, or does everyone use DHL?
thnx

i'm using the speed post thing [sb told me abt it, but dunno exactly what it is!].. a little costlier than snail mail but wayyyyyy cheaper than dhl n the like!

Wow. I had NO idea either that DHL charged by the sheet! But my school's making us try to finish our applications by mid - November (which is insane since that's the ED deadline! And RD deadline is about 1.5 months later!) and so I think I'll send by snail mail unless I fall behind schedule. But I'm a little scared about the riskiness cause snail mail from here isn't the quickest, nor the best. Took 3 weeks for a letter to get from M'sia to here!

Do you have..hmm..TNT (or what's it called) or FedEx with possibly better rates?

Ya they do!! I sent supplementary stuff and in total it cost about 80 dollars!! + the $75 Yale fee! I still don't understand why they charge by the sheet.. I mean how MUCH can a single sheet of paper weiigghh???
Im not sure about fedex and the likes. I didn't check yet.. but I have a lot of time before RD deadlines so I'll have a look around... as for speed post.. Iv never heard of that. Do you get that at a regular post office?
Thanks

hey IB_Victim are you from India.

cuz i heard DHL offers a 50% off for sending univ applications. tell me if you want the number.

Use DHL and remember that some schools will not reciprocate when April rolls along! Don't think money at this point. What is that application worth to you?

It's worth a LOT. Do you have UPS where you are? It might be a bit cheaper.

im in india

DHl does offer 50 % discount to student aplications to universities for admission..... but even in india the cost is a Rs.900...... i dont think anyone wud use that........besesides snail mail is gud if u have time and patience and if u do things the right way..... many do it with it and are just as fine

Snail mail is absolutely safe. although it takes around 8-12 days min for it to get into US from India, there is no need to feel insecure about its getting lost or something. I did all my application stuff (around 4 mails/college*12 college=around 50 mails) from snail mail and not one was lost. And you don't have to worry about missing deadlines as long as you postmark it before the deadline date.

Send Fedex! It costs U$30 an envelope in my country.

oh 30 dollars an envelope is a loottt better than 80+. Ill look into FedEx but I honestly don't wanna sped like 2k juusstt on apps, for some reason I feel bad (don't ask me why
but people are dying because they have no food and i'm wasting all of this money of speed mail when deadlines are still a month and a half away and so technically its completely unnecessary). If not I think regular mail is just fine.
o and im not from India so the discount doesnt apply here.
thanks everyone!

DHL does offer the 50% discount: but there's a catch....the minimum weight is 500 grams...so the discounted price is Rs. 900 odd. Most other normal courier services would charge you Rs. 1000 for the 250-gram pack...but college apps rarely go beyond 250, so it's a smart marketing ploy by DHL

I'm using Speed Post: 4 days flat at Rs. 400. Sounds good to me.

where do u get speed post... is it at regular post offices?

it is at most post offices especially big ones

nice Observation JOe

thanks so much every1!

i use UPS for every app. one pacakge cost about US$8 up to a certain weight. so i make sure all the papers go at once, which means i don't have to send twice for a school/
