DHS and PTA Notifications

@searchngmom

I think you might be confusing a post I made awhile back somewhere. And it was almost exactly what @agalati16 said, because several people asked the question if they could still win a DHS or PTA if they had been deferred. And my answer was yes, that I knew of people that had been deferred that ended up winning the DHS before they had been notified that they had been admitted. So their admission essentially was confirmed by their winning, although they did receive official confirmation of admission at about the same time. There would be no reason for admissions to wait until April if someone won a DHS or PTA, except perhaps in a one-in-a-million situation.

@fallenchemist
Thank-you for clarifying. Guess weā€™ll know about the scholarship one way or the other by monthā€™s end.

@agalati16. Thanks. Guess weā€™ll know soon about scholarships one way or the other.

I contacted UPS. We had created two accounts due to my son being underage, and not thinking that it was working. I contacted UPS moments ago and they told me that neither account has been activated because they can not authorize it based on public records. Weā€™ve lived here for 15 years, but we are in an apartment and that could be part of the problem in verifying our location - although, we do get UPS packages,but very slowly since they do not have a key to the building.

I now see that only one of the two ups notifications shipped. It should arrive by 3pm central time today.

Would be curious if your child is honored with the DHS or the PT - thanks and congratulations!

If I donā€™t have a UPS notification, does that mean I didnā€™t win the scholarship? Iā€™m from California, which is pretty far away.

@agalati16 not necessarily, but fwiw Iā€™m from Washington which is just about as far as you can get domestically and I got a notification.

I am a little frustrated though that it looks like theyā€™re giving me a scholarship they should know I canā€™t take. I was planning to email them today but it seems like itā€™s too late now.

agalat16 - you can set up a UPS MyChoice account to get notifications of a UPS shipment in transit. If you are not signed up, you wonā€™t get notification. So, not getting notification does not mean anything if you are not signed up.

Sorry that someone else wonā€™t get to use it .

I think I got it set up correctly, I just donā€™t have any notifications that any packages are in transit to my address. What a bummer. I worked really hard for this and I seemed to have the perfect stats. Oh well, Iā€™ll end up where I end up.

You could always IM UPS and make sure you have it set up right

Good luck everyone!!

@agalati16 Just to commiserate with you ā€¦ I was so hoping my son would get the DHS but we donā€™t have a UPS package either ā€¦ Iā€™m super disappointed, but Iā€™m choosing to believe that itā€™s confirmation that heā€™s meant to be at another school, and itā€™s a great one ā€¦ Iā€™m sure that this will work out for your best as well.

Yay! PTA just came. (2pm central time). Best of luck to everyone else.

@SoProudofMyChildren

Congratulations!!

So that came UPS next day? Also, would you mind copy/paste the form in the original post and fill it in?

Our son received his award today via UPS Next Day Air Saver.

Comment:

He used the idea of a ballot box for the box, considering he and friends are about to vote for the first time, and in no less the biggest election since 2008. What a way to get started in the process. In one of the band hall sectional rooms, he set up a video camera and interviewed 5 students with preset questions about their political interests, how they stay informed, which candidate(s) they like and dislike and why, ā€¦ and then did a monologue explaining his project, expectations, findings, and more. He did it all and used iMac to put it together, transitions, ā€¦ The DHS letter states they liked the idea and thought it was a mature approach to a mature subject.

This is such an incredible opportunity, and I canā€™t wait for him to get home from school so I can give him the biggest hug of all time.

Congrats!! Guess there were no photos of the mass mailing on twitter or Jeffā€™s blog this year!

@jym626

Maybe the big storm and campus closings yesterday got in the way.

@WineDrinker

Congratulations!! What a clever idea, and I bet his execution was great. As jym626 and I and many others can attest, it really is an amazing feeling. Oh, and thanks for filling out the little form. It will really help inform future inquiries with solid information, especially about those interviews.

Comment: My project focused on the consideration of the roots of the word immaculate and what it means to be ā€œpureā€ or ā€œfree from imperfectionsā€ just like the white box. I then created a social experiment and translated peoplesā€™ personalities. The average of all these colors was white showing that although we may be flawed as individuals, when we come together we are immaculate.
