You want your parents to spend an extra $170k because you think you’re too smart to go to Tulane? What are they saying about that plan?
I’m in a similar situation with Sewanee and Tulane. Tulane is my top choice, but until I hear back about financial aid it’s costing me $40k while Sewanee would be $4,500. My heart is set on Tulane, but I know I’ll be okay if I go to Sewanee. I would definitely recommend doing overnight visits at both schools. I did the usual day tour and I had a preference toward Sewanee, but after my overnight visits, I realized that I wanted to go to Tulane. The best thing I could recommend you do is to talk to current students (not just tour guides) about how they feel about U M and Tulane. I got honest opinions that really have swayed my decision. Also, don’t let things like rankings and stats determine where you go. If you visit, really think about whether you see yourself fitting in at the school. Please don’t spend four years being miserable at a school just because it has better stats. The weather is a big thing to consider too. Some people can adapt well, but note that you’re going to have to deal with it every single day. If you hate snow like I do, then UM will be torture. If you can’t stand the heat, then Tulane will literally be hell. Lastly, be open minded but trust your gut. If money isn’t a factor for you and you honestly like Michigan better after touring, then go there. (But if you do decide to go to Tulane then I’ll hopefully see you in the fall!)
Out of curiosity, did your Deans Scholarship notice come with your financial aid package or before/after? My daughter was also accepted to Tulane EA and received an almost full tuition scholarship however it was just labeled as Tulane scholarship, not specifically Deans award (or other type) Just curious! We’re thrilled with her scholarship though will still need about $15K in loans so we are waiting on RD college acceptances to compare.
and my two cents is Tulane over Michigan. Why go into debt for $240K?!! As a parent, I’m worried enough about $60K! And what do your parents think about the two, money wise?
