I’m close to putting the deposit down, but I have some concerns. Namely, I’m worried the student body will be preppy (new england-heavy) and conformist, creating an environment similar to that of my high school. Additionally, I’m concerned about the strength of the international studies program. Any information on these topics is much appreciated, thank you.
As someone that put their deposit down yesterday haha I’ll try to answer. I didn’t get the impression of Dickinson being overly preppy when I was there just last week. I met people as close as Maryland to as far as California and Washington. Personally, I’m from Virginia so you can count me as one person from #Dson2019 that isn’t from New England. I know the graduating class of 2014 had people from 25 states and 20 something countries if I’m correct. I met with a Political Science and International Studies professor last week and from that conversation I felt the International Studies program was exceedingly strong and that the International Studies degree can be further explored in many different concentrations (for example, economics, history, etc.). Also, the opportunities for study abroad there are great, which could complement an I.S. degree nicely. The professor also stressed there are many opportunities for individual research projects in the political science/international studies/international business management departments as well as research opportunities with staff. I hope this helps and good luck!
Thank you @2015gef . I noticed you also were active in F&M threads, so what made you choose F&M over Dickinson? To me, F&M gave off a very impersonal feel and made me somewhat uncomfortable.
@RKGroup I chose Dickinson over F and M because I felt Dickinson had way better facilities in general. Also, although I loved Lancaster, I’m more accustomed to a small town setting which made Dickinson feel more like home. I also thought the students were more engaged in class at Dickinson than at F and M.
