Congrats on your D’s decision. Kenyon is very special. Not only did I think their acceptance letter was the best written of all the colleges, instead of sending stickers for swag, they sent a book! It’s the 2005 commencement speech by David Foster Wallace, thoughts about living a compassionate life. I am amazed by their thoughtful approach to admissions.
Your rivalry remark reminded me of a friend who is a Lafayette grad. I told him my D toured Lafayette and Lehigh and preferred Lafayette. He said he was glad she preferred it to “that other school.”
Kenyon is indeed a very special place…my wife and I loved our time there. I absolutely love that place. One of the nice things about our daughter going to Denison is that when we visit her we will be able to take a side trip to Kenyon
Ha, yes, that guy was quite a piece of work! Before our kids’ sophomore years, Bates hired a coach whom my kid loved, and had been recruited to play for, at another midwest LAC. If that Bates hire had happened sooner, we might have been streaming NESCAC matches from Maine instead of visiting Granville in person . . . . but we are happy the way it all worked out!
My daughter is also deciding between the two schools and we went to each Admitted Student Day over the last two weeks. They are so similar to even the red lawn chairs. Really appreciated the thoughts and please continue to add.
