Which would you attend? Do they have great career prospects?
My kid who attended Dickinson and her college friends have all done quite well in their post-undergrad career and grad school choices. I think Dickinson is a bit more pre-professional than a lot of LACs.
Both are wonderful colleges! You can’t go wrong here! Hopefully, some current students at each will weigh in.
We did not visit Dickinson, and my son is not attending either college. But here is my review of our Skidmore visit:
Skidmore: This was the most unexpected “hit” of our college tours. My son loved it and had a great interview with an admissions officer. We had a really bubbly tour guide who was extremely enthusiastic about her classes and experiences.
The surrounding town was charming, with a block of mansions right next to the campus, and a wonderful, active town in Saratoga Springs. The campus was very pretty with lawns and trees and the “North Woods” (a forest on campus). The buildings are modern, so not your classic college look, but they were attractive buildings with a nicer and more unified look than at another school we visited that had 1970’s/ modern buildings.
The Adirondack Mountains and Lake George both are a short drive away.
The dorm experience can sometimes start with a triple, but it is common to get a single in future years, and the dorm rooms are nice-looking with window seats. Upperclassmen can live in on-campus apartments. The male-female ratio skews female.
Skidmore is great for studying the arts but strong across the board.
No discussion about Skidmore could be complete without mentioning the annual Beatlemore Skidmania, during which students perform their interpretations of Beatles songs.
What is the COA (cost of attendance) for each school ?
These were top choices for my D. They are both great schools and you can’t go wrong. Your choice of major might indicate a better choice one way or the other. Skidmore won out for D…lots of factors that didn’t really have to do with academics such as location and price. She would have been happy to attend either but has done fantastic at Skidmore as a Math/CS double major.
Costs aren’t a factor, they both gave great financial aid. @Publisher … @everyoneelse I would probably study business of political Science. Babson College Ian a possibility too
@Jarb15 Dickinson’s internship/job network extends into Philly, Baltimore, and DC. The career center is first rate.
Dickinson doesn’t have a pure business major. They have international business & Econ, though. My D’s fiancé was an Econ major, and has done well in his career with one of the big consulting firms.
