Dickinson Vs UGA vs Colorado College- HELP!

My daughter got significant aid to go to Dickinson in PA, won't cost significantly more than in-state at UGA. She's highly interested in Study Abroad, studying psychology/Latin/dance
in order to be a college admissions counselor or a magazine stylist. She wants to go to NYU for grad school and land somewhere probably besides Georgia (NC, NY, California,) She also is really into environmental studies and green which Dickinson is highly rated for.

What's best, big college with fun, football and friends from HS?

She knows no-one at Dickinson, has visited twice and liked the campus and academics but was uncertain about the student fit, school spirit and party activities for the weekend. She likes to work hard, play hard.

She is wait listed at CC and staying on their list.

HELP!

Hi Cameragirl - welcome to CC and congratulations on your D’s great options! It think that deep in their hearts, most students have a preference for either big campus with lots of hustle and bustle or small school with intimacy and quality relationships. Your question “What’s best?” comes down to where you fall on that spectrum.

For me, personally, it would clearly be Dickinson. It’s a great school with an outstanding reputation, especially in the Northeast. The campus is beautiful, the peer group is talented, and the students come from all over the country. With an interest in getting beyond the Southeast, it’d be a great choice.

I’ve tried to encourage both my Ds to consider Davidson, which is like a Southern Dickinson. Both got into a larger reach school and went there. I’d love for my 11th-grade S to consider a Dickinson / Davidson type of experience, but he’s a big time marching band enthusiast, so I’d bet he’ll end up at UGA or Tech. I’d willingly pay extra for him to have the small, quality experience if he was willing - your D gets to have it for the same price as it would cost to head off to UGA with a lot of her HS classmates!

Thank you! Great reply.

Dickinson was a finalist for my D, and she also visited twice and knows a couple of kids there. It’s definitely a work hard, play hard school, with a strong international focus and a sustainable campus. It’s fairly preppy, but not in an annoying way. I would think it would be perfect for your D, if she’s okay with the small town.
