can anyone give me some info on dickinson? i'm not into the party scene and am definitely not the preppy type. i'm from ny and hispanic. would i fit in there? it doesnt seem to be a problem even though the school isnt very diverse. any information about the school, campus, campus life, people and overall school would be a great help.

there's plenty to read on this link regarding a campus visit this August, Dickinson references within to other CC thread links:

on the issue of diversity, I was concerned about the low minority percentage reported in one of the college review books, 8% I think. During our August visit described in the above link, I point blank told the adcom of my concern during the info session....she gave me a fairly good (i.e., didn't dodge the question) response that Dickinson recognized the problem & had started setting up some special urban recruiting programs to attract more minorities......incoming freshman class is ~15%, so seems to be improving, but still nowhere near the real world if you ask me.

goodluck......

My advice: Visit Dickinson (or any school for that matter) and do an overnight if possible. On paper, it looked perfect for my daughter, but the minute she saw the way kids were dressed there (I'm talking madras shorts, popped collars, our tour guide wore pearls) she knew right away it wasn't the right school for her (she's more the grunchy granola, artsy and quirky kind.) Talking with students she met on campus only confirmed her gut instinct. Dickinson is a GREAT school, but fit is especially important if you're considering a small liberal arts school in a relatively isolated area. Yes, there may be other students just like you on campus --- but when a school only has between 1000 and 2500 students, 5%, 10%, or 15% isn't a whole lot of "just like me" when you translate it into raw numbers. Make sure any such school is something you can live with as there are plenty of choices out there.
