Diction Errors

I'm reading barrons 2400 and they talk about diction errors...but they don't exactly tell you the best way to study them. They just offer 10 examples. So how do you guys study diction errors (e.g. A toddler is causing a scene at the mall, not a scenario)

apply reasoning. a scenario is hypothetical (it isn’t an occurrence) while a scene is incidental (it occurs). studying the mechanics of something by learning rules, memorizing phrases, etc. is not the best way to go unless you are seriously bad with english. a lot of it is just reasoning and defining
