...I got 680. crammed, yeah, but still . . i'm supposed to be "good" in biology. so far I haven't seen higher than 740 (which was a retake supposedly). left 5 blank and honestly thought I didn't get more than 10 wrong as per the answer compilation, which is at least 700+ according to the usual raw score conversions.

iono... the bio test was so much easier than in may... so possibly the curve was bad. I got a 680(cramming) in may and a 740 (barely studying) in june which is good enough for me.

I'm in a very similar situation.. I got a 700 on this June's Bio-M Sat II, but I got an A in my AP Bio class for the year and am fairly certain I received a 5 on the AP exam... I'm not sure if I'm retaking it just because I don't feel like studying everything all over again in the Fall.

Besides Roubi, if you really did get a 5 on the AP exam, won't that look more appealing to top colleges anyway since the AP exam comprises more material? And a 680 really isn't that bad either: it's still well above the average.

I hope it had an awful curve, just so I feel better about myself. 770 disappoints me. Out of like 8 friends that took the Bio-M in May, one got 780 and the rest got 790-800. And they thought I was good (better?) at bio.
Should I retake it? I'm leaning to yes. And restudying may help with getting Bio Olympiad semifinalist again.
I was looking at the college destinations site at my school (TJHSST). Of all those that took the Bio-M and got accepted to Princeton (and posted their scores), nobody got lower than 790. Those that got in the 700-780 range usually went to Duke. I don't know how I feel about Duke. Just sayin'. Not like your SAT II score is an indicator of which college you'll go to or anything.

I got an 800, but I think I might not have missed a question. So yes, the curve could have been harder than in years past.

As for retaking a 770... that is pushing it. A thirty point difference is rather insignificant, statistically, in my opinion. But the percentiles for SAT 2 scores for a school like princeton would tell you otherwise...

If you got a 770, 800 is definately within reach, especially for a bio olympiad guy. Coming out of a school as competitive as I gather yours is, I would consider retaking it (though there are many here that will disagree with me rather angrily, I assume).

Well you know, the people that would say their Bio score would have been as part of their top 2 ot 3 SAT II scores.

I got a 790 myself. I cannot see which ones I missed. I'm guessing I missed 2 at most, maybe in those last couple of questions in the Molecular section (the flask with the clear/yellow colors with dye added).

And chronicidal, I don't think you should sweat it. 770 isn't a bad score at all. Anything about 750+ is wonderful. You shouldn't retake it. By the way, I was a USABO semifinalist as well.

How much more do you need to know for USABO over the SAT 2? I imagine the SAT 2 seems pretty basic in comparison. Now that I'm done with the SAT and the AP, I'm still interested in Bio.

Is there any way to go about taking the first USABO test if your school doesn't have a program?

USABO has a bunch of questions that are little details that you wouldn't be expected to know for the AP or SAT. I remember a question on how nerve gases work and how atropine counters it. I only remember that because it's interesting. On the semifinal exam there was a free response that was like, give three reasons why poriferans may can be classified as eumetazoa.

You need to get a teacher to "nominate"/ sign you up to take the Open exam.

Yeah I can see why I wouldn't retake it now. But I have a while to decide. Or before I can talk with my GC. Anyway, what do colleges think of retakes? Especially with a 770, would they think I'm an obsessive perfectionist (in a bad way)?

The USABO is much, much more difficult than either the SAT II or the AP. I had absolutely no idea what many of the questions were talking about, and I ended up making educated guesses on the majority of them.

I remember walking out of the testing room expecting a 15/50. Somehow, I made the cutoff for the semifinals, though. o_O

I got a 770, but I pretty much killed my vacation studying from Princeton Review. Good thing I took one last look at those hormones before taking the test!

He could've missed 1 more and still would've received an 800.

Did he get 800? nope. 770. the curve was either harsher or the scantron really messed up . . which since they scanned it twice, probably not.

Oath...thanks for the encouragement, but .. I don't want to do it again though, it's either retake biology or take physics for the first time, and I'd rather stick with physics since I need it for my major, even though I haven't taken the class, yet. I heard that the curve for physics was pretty decent, and if I make a 5 on the ap biology test. . I think i'll definently not retake. Colleges take the highest 3 sat II scores right? so bio can be the 4th sat II hopefully, and maybe a 5 won't make it look as bad.

Oh yeah, about usabo, one of the finalists told me that if you memorized the huge Campbell's book for biology .. or whichever book they recommend, down to every diagram/chart, you're guaranteed to do really well. so i suppose it's not that random
