Sorry, but dreary/depressing/pretentious/ – those are bashing words.

I’ll consider which of the two I prefer if I actually get into both of them next year :).

P.S. Is it true that Yale has a graveyard close to it?

Yes, but Harvard has a couple, too.

IMHO, Harvard and Yale are one of the most similar pairs of colleges in the country. In a nutshell, I think Harvard is a near-identical product in a much better location. Unless I were focused on a particular program that they don’t offer in the same way (theater major at Yale; math 55 track at Harvard), that would be enough to determine the decision for me.

Hi, I’m in the same boat with choosing between Harvard and Yale. If anyone could give some advice, I’d really appreciate it!

I think this YDN column describes the “defensive Eli” pretty well (although probably to an exaggerated degree) [Yale Daily News - In a tale of two schools, second-best is far better](http://www.yaledailynews.com/articles/view/11934)

A few years back, I ended up choosing Harvard over Yale because I felt more at home on the tour and I wanted to be as far from home as I could as well as near a city having grown up near Manhattan my whole life. Furthermore, references to how unsafe New Haven was worried me a bit. However, having dated someone at Yale and being there for various weekends, I can definitely say (a) New Haven is safe as long as you’re reasonable and (b) it really has a dynamic that reminds me of Harvard. Between house (or residential college) rivalries, focused, intelligent individuals, and a myriad of resources to work with, the two are more similar than some give credit. Choosing between the two is really about feel in my opinion. Get down to Bulldog Days and check out our Prefrosh weekend and hopefully one of them will prove the necessary push y’all are looking for.

haha I love the condescending, passive-aggressive insults to Yale…from Harvard kids making fun of Yalies who insult Harvard…

hypocrites?..

which is why I choose to go to Y ale over H ell…

How to decide? Flip a coin.

It’s not just about which side comes up. Imagine that you had to go to the school you assigned to that side. Would you be okay with it? Be as honest with yourself as possible. To which school is your instinct pulling you?

Harvard and Yale must be really going at it…

I live in NYC and just two emails from both Yale and Harvard…both offering a reception party at the same time, on the same day, but in two different places.

Trying to force people to decide early, it seems.

[The Harvard Crimson :: Magazine :: The Cult of Yale](http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=350153)

They’re definitely both AMAZING schools in the end, top in the country. You can’t really go wrong with either.

I just know which I personally prefer :)

they’re actually very similar. you’ll find wonderful people at both places. i don’t think harvard is any more uptight or elitist than yale. in my time at harvard, the infrequent elitism i have encountered has barely registered bc it’s definitely not a hegemony here. most people are open and down-to-earth and simply don’t care much about elitists. i am sure yale is similar.

i chose harvard over yale, and i have had a wonderful experience, but i think i would have had a great time at yale as well. i suppose that’s not much help. location was the main factor in the decision, both bc i preferred cambridge to new haven but also because i have siblings in and around the boston area.

i certainly don’t feel the need to bash yale rolls eyes although i must admit that i do have an anti-andover sentiment, heh.
