Did any prospective student receive an email from current Yale student to apply to Ya

The target group is high achievers in math/science students whom Yale thinks they may be interested in applying to Yale. The current students send this email today. It is very nice and quite informative email by the way. I like Yale’s initiatives to tell prospective student why Yale is an attractive place.

I have received it, but have no clue why I was targeted it since I don't consider myself much of a high achiever. I would guess then, that many people received such e-mail from Yale.

don't think my son received it either. How does Yale know what kids are high achievers in math and science? Are those areas that Yale is trying to target to get more students who intend on majoring in math/science verses humanities, etc?

Probably PSAT/SAT scores.

Well my kid received two emails. Both were based on kids who scored high in AP exams such as 5 in all AP exams such as BC calculus, Physics C, Chemistry (email says that high AP science scorers).

I guess my son didn't take enough science AP's or the right ones because he rec'ed a 5 in Bio, Environ. Science and then 5's in other areas: English, US History, and European History.

Ktoto, you said you received the email. Did you score high on AP's in science, which is a reason some were given for receiving the email? thanks

Cailg - my D got the email looking for science students. I'm guessing it's based on SAT scores, because that's the only information they have about her so far. She didn't take any science SATs.

Umm don't look too far into this stuff, you guys...

yeah, I agree. my son's SAT's were 2290. not sure what the email recipients were, but much of this is confusing.

Its definately not based on SATs, because mine are (710 M, 600 CR, 610 W) and I recieved that e-mail. I guess then, that it is solely based on AP scores, mine are: 5 Calc AB, 5 Physics C, 5 Biology, 4 Computer Science AB. But I still don't understand how my scores make me a 'high acheiver', I imagined that 'high acheivers' would have higher and more science scores that I.

it might be random students that stand out to them

I have only taken 2 math/sci test (4-Bio, 5-Calc AB) and my SAT was ridiculously low for Yale (lower than 2200), and I received the email. I have no idea how they are sending it out.

it said in the header of my email:

To: "Science AP Physics Scores"

I took and got 5's on both Physics C AP tests, so I'm guessing it's one of them. Or at least the specific email I got from a physics major was.

too bad they aren't sending it out for 5's in any of these: US History, Europ. Hist, English, Bio or Environ. Science.

The email means nothing...

The "To:" field of my email says "Science Prospects 1

Actually, the email means everything. As a matter of fact, I'm almost 100% positive that if you received this email, you will automatically be accepted to Yale undergrad.

if only that were true tripNip

Most of the top schools are now sending soliticitations to apply.

Its about increasing applicant volume and the rejection rate and ultimately about having a lower overall acceptance rate
