Did anyone switch languages once they got into college, but in the same branch? Like if you were studying Scottish you switched to Irish? I'm thinking of studying French instead of Spanish (which I'll have taken 5 years of) once I get to college, and I was wondering if anyone did this

Spanish to Latin to French

I'm sure lots of people switch, into something similar or something completely different.
I'm switching from spanish to chinese.

Four years of German in high school, switched to Chinese. I'll pick up the German again though...

I took Latin in high school, then switched to Spanish in college. It made life easier in many ways -- grammatical forms are similar, and any time I couldn't think of the proper Spanish word, I'd think of the Latin one and try to put a Spanish ending on it, which works fairly well.

i was just wondering because I don't want to completely leave romance languages, just a little bored of spanish

I'm switching from four years of French to Ancient Greek. :P

explore as many languages as possible, i think. i took german and spanish in high school, and this far will take spanish in college.

spanish to italian...which isn't a huge stretch

I'm going from 3 years of French to either latin or greek

I did spanish in high school and Hebrew in college

Thank god I never have to take foreign language again (gotta love being in the information technology branch). However, if I had to, I would try out a new language just to become more well-rounded. Spanish to French sounds fine to me.

Spanish to French might not be as easy as you think. They're very similar but the minor differences always get me. I took spanish and french simultaneously one year and I was mixing them up too much.

I'm going to keep studying French and simply start another language: Russian.

On your own, or in college?
I want to study two languages but since I only have like 4 courses per semester, it doesn't give me enough room to fulfill major requirements and do two languages.

I did French in school for 6 years, then Japanese in college... :)

Wow, same here, rainbow kirby. :) Just finished my slavery as a 6th-year French student, now I finally get to study the language I want- Japanese.

French to Latin to Portugesse

somewhat of a slave myself parasitelin :p
spanish (5yrs) to japanese woohoo
im sure i would go back to learning spanish, just not in the context of a school.

7.5 years of Spanish --> chinese haha
