Did anyone else get a call?

I got a random call from a professor yesterday. He introduced himself and said that he saw that I had applied to Wiess. He just wanted to see if I had any questions. I told him not at the moment. He gave me his e-mail in case I thought of something I might want to ask.

How random is that, huh? What do you think that means? Is it standard for professors to call students about questions? That's all he said. I was kinda confused. Anyone else get a similar call?

looking good I’d say

Yeah, I got one from a physic professor. it was strange though because i didn’t receive a likely letter. i’m hoping the call is equivalent lol.

my intended major is physics and no call for me so you’re ahead of me - most surely a good (great) sign!

I really love the Rice faculty; I have never actually visited Rice, because my situation does not permit me to do so, but I have spent a lot of time poring over as much material as I can get my grimy little hands on. From what I’ve read, Dr. Gao’s personality sounds so much like my current math teacher’s : ) Does somebody who is attending/has attended Rice want to share stories/anecdotes about the faculty?

apples: What department was the professor from? I’m guessing it is from a major that would like more students. If this is true, this is good for you. Essentially, you are an URM, just not in the classic sense.

Or I could be wrong. Either way, it’s a very good thing.
