So i got into wharton, and i would really like to go, but they deemed my family as not requiring ANY need based aid. on the other hand, dartmouth is giving me over 40k in grant. how can there be such polar opposites???

dartmouth for practically free > upenn with only 7k loan

Maybe Penn didn't recieve all of the necessary financial aid forms from you so they were not able to award any aid. You should call them and see if anything is missing.

To view your financial aid award log onto the Penn Admissions Decsion site and then click on "My Penn Plan Online" then hit continue and all your fin aid info is there.

If any of you are interested in attending Penn, but Penn's FA offer isn't as good as that of a comparable school, you should give Penn a chance to match/beat the other aid offer(s) (including Dartmouth's).

Please share on tips to get a better financial aid offer. Georgetown gave me a very manageable amount for my parents. But Penn nearly doubles what I was expected to pay. X.x

hey.. do you guys mind me asking what your family income is? I applied to Penn ED but didnt get any financial aid. So now im curious as to whether other schools would have offered me more. My parents' income is a little over 150,000.

Woa! I better post quickly to get beyond that "666" number.

Others here with recent experience might be able to give you more specific advice, but I'd start by contacting your regional rep in the Admissions Office and explain the situation (that you really want to attend Penn, but you've been offered better FA by Harvard, Dartmouth, Georgetown, etc.). You eventually may end up dealing directly with the Student Financial Services office, but I'd start with your regional rep in the Admissions Office, since he/she is most familiar with you and your application.

My suspicion, by the way, is that it would be very tempting for Penn to match or beat an offer from Harvard--or even Dartmouth--if it meant winning an individual cross-admit battle with those particular schools. :)
