27 ACT, 88.7, some AP & Honors, lots of EC's!!!

Maybe I will get in but I am not holding up anything for it! I am going to commit to a school and if for some reason I get into UDEL later on I will consider it!

Hang in there on the waiting list. I was accepted from the waiting list last year. Got the acceptance by email on May 2nd. After I got placed on the waiting list, I wrote a letter to the admissions office expressing my continued interest and updating them on what I had been up to, I think that helped.

I'm waitlisted. 3 AP classes this year, 3.6 GPA, been on high honor roll all year with nothing lower than a 94 average. My SATs weren't as good as I would have liked them to be, only an 1150/1600, but I had a bunch of EC's, a kick ass essay, and some really good recommendations. I'm gonna put a deposit down on another school even though UDel is my top choice, but otherwise I'd be screwed. What do you think the odds of me getting accepted are?

wow, you guys had amazing stats and were waitlisted. that's rediculous. i came home and i didn't see a big envelope but when i saw my letter it felt kind of heavy so i thought there was a waitlist form. it turns out that the other paper along with the rejection letter was just a stupid letter explaining the competitiveness of the applicant pool and a bunch of other bull. it always sucks when a friend of yours with the same stats got in, but i was really at a disadvantage because i didn't take a lot of APs. my school isn't really big on them on a select few take them and i was always too lazy =/ does anyone have thoughts on quinnipiac university? is that a terrible school?

Don't be so hard on yourself. My son was also denied last year with good stats like you. The simple fact is that there are many many qualified applicants, than there are spots. Identical students with exactly the same stats, some get in, some are waitlisted, some are denied. Who knows why? You did well in HS, be proud of your accomplishments, and I am sure you will end up in a great school, and next year, UDEL will be just a faint memory.

I have heard that Quinnipiac is a very good school, with a beautiful campus.

I think that they are trying to get more Delaware students to attend, and I agree that the economy is playing a part in all this. I would suspect that more Delaware residents are going to UD to take advantage of their "Commitment to Delawareans" program. This year they promised to meet the financial need of all Delaware students. That would be hard to pass up.

In our "waitlist" letter, it said they received nearly 24,000 applications for a class of 3,700. Guess they could pick and choose to create a well-rounded class according to their criteria.

If you look at the common data set for last year, they had a little over 22,000 applicants. This year there's almost 10% more. On top of that they may be anticipating a higher yield because they are a bargain compared to some privates. Therefore the acceptance percentage probably went down by a few points.
