I received this letter today

February 2, 2007

Dear ___________.

Thank you for your application to the University of Southern California. I wanted to give you an update on our process. However, before I continue, I want to make clear that we have not yet reached a decision on you application; you are still being considered for admission to USC.

A record number of students have applied for our merit scholarship programs. For the Trustee and Presidential scholarship, we have narrowed a pool of over 17,000 December 11th applicants to the group of 1,200 who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for these awards.

___________, I am sorry to say that you were not selected for further consideration for either of these two scholarships. In addition, if you are admitted, named as National Merit Finalist and choose USC as your first-choice institution, you will receive a USC Presidential scholarship.

We expect to offer admission to roughly 8,400 freshman. So far, we have notified only about 15% of those students, which leaves plenty of room for great candidates. I appreciate your patience as you wait for us to finish this hard work during the coming weeks.

We will not have much more news for you about you application until late-March/early-April, when the remainder of our admissions offers are finalized. Between now and then we will spend a great deal of time reading, re-reading, and carefully considering which candidates should receive an invitation to enroll. If you haven' already done so please submit the grades you earned from the first marking period of your senior year.

Thank you for applying to USC. You'll be hearing from us soon.

Sincerely,
Timothy E. Brunold

to me this kinda sounds like a rejection letter...did anyone else get this letter?
