I think it has to do more with putting in your criteria for scholarships on your UC app. Chances are, your friend didn’t put that as a criteria. I remember checking off something about leadership and community involvement.

oh no i am definitely a pessimist hahaha it’s just that in this case, i am trying SO hard just to relieve some stress lol

but I see everyone’s point…unfortunately lol

questions:

they usually send this email to freshman…and make it available and set a deadline prior to admissions…you guys think it would mean that they’ve sent it to a selected pool of freshman then? cause why would they release such a prestigious scholarship to every freshman that checked off the thing…seems inefficient to do so.

but sorry, i’m just jabbering. i’ll stop lol.

^^ its a waste of time for the applicants and the scholarship committee if people who didn’t get into CAL applied for the scholarship. Thats why the application doesn’t open until afterwards. They just want to let everyone know there are scholarship opportunities if you get in.

That’s understandable, but what throws me off is why would it not be a waste of time for them if a bunch of freshman applied? UNLESSSSSS they selected a pool of freshman…because their deadline is prior to the admissions deadline. i’m hoping the same goes for transfers…because it would make more sens, this is if the email means nothing, that they would send it to transfers with the freshman deadline because there are fewere applicants. and instead save the freshmans deadline for after admission…once again, unless they have a selected bunch of freshman they wont mind receiving stuff from.

Just my opinion, but this seems like a small stake scholarship that is passed out to a lot of people (perhaps even everyone who checked a box about this scholarship). Getting invited to compete for the Regents Scholarship imo is a much better predictor for who will be admitted, though even that is no guarantee since there were members last year who were invited to UCLA’s Regents and then later were rejected.

I’m all for being optimistic, but this does not sound like a prestigious award that only the ‘top applicants’ get a nab at.

agreed w/ cali trumpet, regents is the best indicator. But woah, never heard of people getting regents and rejected! maybe that’s only for ucla.

i remember people getting rejected with regents and financial aid showing on URSA for UCLA too. Nothing is a guarantee besides the actual letter.
