Did anyone ever have Math 53 with Fitzpatrick?

Is it possible to skip (most) of his lectures, but diligently read the book (and do all the practice problems), and get an 'A' in his class?

I’m taking Fitzpatrick for 185, but from the looks of it, it’s the exact opposite. You can get away with not reading the book at all and not doing any practice problems as long as you go to lecture. (my impression so far).

He likes his 53 class, since he never shuts up about them, so I take that as an indicator he puts more into his lectures.

Your most recent HW had a linear algebra question in it, right? I’d say try to make lectures if posisble

I stopped going to Fitzpatrick’s lectures right after the first midterm (went to maybe 3 lectures the rest of the year). Read from the textbook and cramed for the midterm 2 and the final and pulled off a solid A. Still, wouldn’t recommend it. I had already taken mutlivariable calculus in high school (blow off class senior year, but still it helped) though. Seriously, though, Fitzpatrick is a pretty good lecturer so don’t be lazy like me and just go to lecture if u can. The key is to do his suggested problems since his exams are pretty much in that format.

Yes, it’s definitely possible. You can get away with not going to 53 lec and just reading the book, but not the other way around. Basically, read the book, do as many of suggest problems as you can, and you should be fine. His tests are pretty kind relatively speaking, I think.

So his midterm 2 and final is like the suggested problems or difficult.

Any thoughts on Final today. Do you guys think it was easy or hard?

I thought it was really hard :(
