Few months ago, I got a letter from Stanford that started “Dear [my name], As a chair of the Department of History, I encourage you to consider applying to Stanford University…”
And along with that letter, I received two pamphlets that introduced the history major in Stanford & the humanities & arts program.
I’m assuming they sent the advertisement because I scored a 5 on my AP World History exam, but how on earth do they know my score? And no, I never subscribed to Stanford.
I got a bunch of mail and email from Cornell’s ILR school and I’m not really sure why they decided that I’m interested in it.
@greenteen17 Oh… Are you a senior?
@greenteen17 Yep. Are you planning to apply to ILR?
@greenteen17 I always get mail and emails from Cornell about ILR.
The testing organizations sell mailing lists to schools to make extra money. Some schools buy these lists as a part of their sales and marketing strategy to attract more applicants.
I can see why Stanford would choose to spend the money given the shortage of applicants…
Yes, my S received some letters from the music department at Stanford last year.
Did you take the PSAT? That’s where they get all your information from. If you sign up for that, a bunch of schools will send you stuff to increase the applicant pool.
