Also, don’t fall into the trap that because UCLA has a medical school that it has a better biology program than Cal or that it is easier to get into medical school.

OP’s question had absolutely nothing to do with Cal lol. Don’t worry, I’m sure he/she’s aware of all the prestige that’s in place up there.

OP, when you apply to UCLA, you only apply for the general college (i/e engineering, letters and science, etc). Since bio is in the college of letters and science, you are evaluated for that school; not major-specific. 80% of the students here change their major, so they kinda take what you put worth a grain of salt :)

^nah, but having a medical school on-campus means that there are more volunteer/research/clinical opportunities, which are helpful.

not quite. It is a misconception; I remember reading Cal has a higher %age of medical school acceptance (if i recall correctly, I remember someone mentioning it in a thread a long time ago), so in the end it really doesn’t matter. Also at UCLA you are dealing with a much larger premed population, which is NOT A BENEFIT. (premeds can be a serious pain, coming from a non-premed biology major)

Second of all, UCSF is only twenty minutes away from Berkeley (via BART)
