Did anyone get in with a Bio major?

Well, there’s a large pre-med major here for something! Probably because it’s easily one of the top-5 programs in the country. Competitive? Yes. Worth it? Definitely.

And if Cal students are anything like normal college students, they’d rather not commute 20 minutes via public transit everyday to volunteer for something that might occur 4 years in their future.

It really is more convenient having the #1 ranked hospital on the West Coast literally 5 minutes off campus (and less than that if you’re a science major, since it’s in the science wing of the school. The med center is newly renovated, and is “paperless,” totally green/state-of-the-art. In fact, if the President gets hurt or sick anywhere west of the Mississippi, he’s flown here.

BAMF internships? Heck yes!

Of course someone does not have to volunteer at a medical school to help them get into medical school. If I recall correctly, to go to UCLA and then get back into UCLA for medical school, is very very hard.

Furthermore, more than just medical school professors do medical research.

UCLA has a lower acceptance rate for medical school overall.

That’s right, but a lot of people aren’t trying to get into UCLA medical school specifically.

People do pre-med here because it prepares them better than perhaps any other school in the country. They don’t do it because it’s fun or easy.

Anyway, I don’t really get how your point about Cal bio has ANYTHING to do with this thread. That would be something for the Berkeley forum I would think…?

^3% difference, and UCLA had close to twice the number of med school applicants/accepted.

shrug

The data is based on the number of people who revealed AMCAS information. The number of applications does not really indicate much as not all of them revealled, but the percentage of admits is more indicative.
