Did anyone get this e-mail?

UC-Berkeley is a reach for me but I still find this e-mail weird. Can anyone tell me what the deal is with it?

Thank you for applying to UC Berkeley for Fall 2007! We’ve begun our
comprehensive review of your application and are writing to ask you to fill out
an online supplemental questionnaire.

Each year we ask a small group of students for additional information about
personal circumstances, academic experience and extracurricular activities.

We can’t emphasize enough that this information can only strengthen your case.
It’s a unique opportunity to tell us more about your personal path to college
without negatively affecting your application.

To be considered in our review, all supplemental information must be completed
by January 22, 2007. The steps are easy:

Log on to myBerkeleyApplication
(http://students.berkeley.edu/myberkeley/myberkeleyapp.asp) to access and fill
out the questionnaire.

Provide us with your fall semester grades in the questionnaire. If you
haven’t received your grades yet, don’t wait for them. It’s more important that
the questionnaire is returned on time. Also, confirm or indicate changes to your
spring class schedule.

(Optional) Submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor,
coach or anyone familiar with your academic background and extracurricular
skills/talents. Your recommender can fill out an online form here:
http://students.berkeley.edu/myberkeley/recommend.

Please do not reply to this email address; if you have questions, call us at
(510) 642-3175, Monday-Friday, 1pm-4pm (PST).

We look forward to hearing from you!

this e-mail is sent out for supplemental information about you. not everyone gets it. if you are borderline stats wise, then they are looking for a reason to admit you so do your very best with the questionairre and with who you choose for recommendations. Also, hope you did well 1st semester on grades. Best of luck!

PS I would remove the links in your original e-mail.... it goes directly to your myberkeley.edu. I don't think you want som wise a*s CC'er completing a recommendation for you! :)

yea, get rid of that link!

Dont worry I took that part out of the link when I posted.

i didn't get it, and i don't really think my stats are all that great compared to the average of berkeley admits. hm....haha maybe they already rejected me and a questionaire wont help my case or something

Out of curiosity, what are your stats, JMP89?

Also, are you Out of State?

I'm OOS and very borderline (3.95 UC GPA, but a 34 ACT and SAT II: math 800/ physics 710, kick ass ECs/Essays). I pretty much figured that because my GPA is so low that if I didnt get a questionaire, I wouldn't be accepted.

Also, Should I have gotten any email at all asking me to log onto myBerkeleyApp because I haven't gotten it yet, but I logged in anyway and it seems to work just fine (it says my name at the top, and "In Review" in the middle).

Im not out of state, I live in L.A. which is the only reason I applied to Berkeley because a lot of kids from my private high school get in without stellar stats. Im not into the whole posting your stats thing but I have good grades, amazing ecs, and mediocre SAT scores. I assume the SAT scores is the reason they would send me this e-mail.

It just sounds like their being honest: they want to know more. There could be a thousand reasons why. Berkeley Admissions are a crapshoot, but if I got this email, I would feel re-assured. Just read it:

the myberkeleyapplication website says my name adn that my application is in review like yours does Kensir

I'm OOS and very borderline (3.95 UC GPA, but a 34 ACT and SAT II: math 800/ physics 710, kick ass ECs/Essays). I pretty much figured that because my GPA is so low that if I didnt get a questionaire, I wouldn't be accepted.

Kensir, are you kidding, a 3.95 UC GPA is "so low"?? Come on dude. 34 on the ACT with those SAT II's, you seem like a strong candidate. Not very borderline.

Wait, where on "myberkeleyapp" can you see the status of your application?

myberkeleyapp is for all students who applied there, it has nothing to do with whether you get accepted: that is the place you check online, and it will tell you if you got in or not.

I thought it would be nice if they added a link to check your credentials, like what scores and stuff they have. But I guess the whole UCapplication.net site is just fine.

so if they don't send u this e-mail, it's either u get rejected or accepted?

Well, you could be anything until March 29th... there is nothing but accepted or rejected though, so I'm not sure what you're asking.

i didn't get an e-mail so i was wondering what it would mean?

Not getting the E-Mail means that (1) You have been accepted, but they aren't releasing information or (2) You have been rejected and they aren't telling you either.

Getting the E-Mail just means (1) you are borderline and can be admitted or rejected or (2) you have disabilities and the survey you get is different then the one most people get.

I got one and I had to get a recommendation and everything. I got accepted into Berkeley and am going there right now and it's very cool. This is the first time i've posted on this site in the longest time... haha... but if you make yourself look really good and luckily get good grades this senior semester you should be able to get in... good luck!
