did anyone hear from steinhardt?

Omg i cannnot take this waiting if i have to wait till monday i’ll die

For Steinhardt music majors (performance) you need to first get in academically through admissions) and then the music department’s input comes into play regarding your audition.

However, music business is not really an audition program. If it is the same as 2 years ago, you sent in a tape and essay, but I doubt that counts for 50% of your admissions. Basically it was a way of initially screening applicant’s basic music ability since they will need to take the same music classes as performance and composition majors. I know that math grades are also looked at since a fair amount of work is at Stern.

@uskoolfish hmm are you a music business major?

I agree that it is probably not 50% of your audition, but I’m sure as hell it counts for a good percentage, or else I feel like they wouldn’t have you waste your time.

luke…

No, I am not a music business major…I am a parent of a vocal perfomance major at NYU. I met with the head of the music business dept at a info session where she discussed the admissions process. As I said, this was about 3 years ago, so things may have changed. D was deciding between both majors at the time.

For performance majors there is a pre-screeing and then a live audition. For music business there is a tape and essays. It is not at all a performance/talent based program, and that is why the tape is not really an audition. Basically the department head described that as long as you can do a decent renedition of “happy b’day”, you had enough talent.

Academics and leadership are very important. And she went on to say that she likes to see 4 years of math, preferrably to a Calculus level. You need to have enough musical aptitude to do well in theory, aural, keyboarding. etc.

Good luck to you!
