Did anyone here turn down Berkeley/UCLA for UCSD?

If so, what were your reasons? Seems like many people have the stigma that Berkeley and/or UCLA is better than SD in all aspects

Turned down UCLA and Berkeley and will be attending UCSD. I am choosing to attend SD because I’m from SD and don’t really fit into the Berkeley or UCLA atmosphere. UCSD is still a great school, especially in econ, which is my major. I also don’t really care that much about undergrad because I am planning on attending a top tier law school, so undergrad doesn’t really matter, just what your GPA and LSAT are. UCSD offers the best chance for me to obtain a high GPA.

So what I’m getting at is, at least for me, undergrad doesn’t really matter to me. But it all depends on what you want to do and if you are planning on majoring in. I live in SD and will save $15000 a year. So its worth it.

I turned down UCLA years and years ago since SD offered a lot more money, and my major at the time (CE) was nearly indistinguishable in reputation between LA and SD.

I was rejected from Berkeley for undeclared and accepted to SD for NanoEngineering. Needless to say, even if I was accepted to Berkeley I probably would have rejected it for SD because it is a much better opportunity. Plus, I live about two hours away from SD, making it easier to travel and live there comfortably. Like Tyler said, undergrad doesn’t matter much, even if you’re looking at the average entry-level salaries. No matter where you go, if you work hard you will get a good education that will take you far.

I was rejected by Berkeley and I turned down LA to attend SD. I live roughly 8 hours away from SD and 6 from LA, so distance wasn’t exactly a factor (if I was accepted into Berkeley it probably would have been a different story). I liked the SD area more than LA (huge beach fan, ocean weather, greenness of campus). As a premed hopeful people told me SD would be a better choice for me, and most of my cousins attend SD so it was more like home.

:P truthfully my biggest battle was between Davis and SD, since Davis was a) closer to home and b) offered more money. College is expensive and I’m not entirely sure I can justify turning down Davis, and I still have mixed feelings about my decision.

@momosky: I have exactly the same dilemma btwn Davis and SD(I live 10 hours from SD but only 1 hour from Davis). I’m assuming you’re currently attending UCSD right now? Davis gave me a couple more thousand, but their overall price was a bit higher so it evened out. How is the location though? 10 hours is super far away from my parents, and transportation seems like a pain :(

^If you fly it doesn’t take that long and it’s not that expensive either.

Several people I met at Admit Day turned down UCLA and Berkeley for SD. The majority of them said they felt more at home in the atmosphere at SD. For a handful, the choice was due to finances and the scholarships they received at SD.

Ucla had ChemE, SD has nano. I chose SD this weekend based on the major.

I got into Berkley and got rejected a couple years ago. I ended up turning down Berkley just cause I couldn’t picture myself at the campus. For me, it just didn’t feel right compared to how SD felt.

Yeah man (or woman) I turned down UCLA (didn’t apply to berkeley). UCSD just feels better. Laid back atmosphere was present on Admit Day. Hahaha, curious (and sorry to add to/change thread a bit OP) , anyone here turn down Brown for UCSD?

UCSD is right next to the beach and the weather are great which = stress reliever big time. The library is awesome!!! I felt at home in researching UCSD. The six college system is kinda cool too.

Good Luck wherever u guys go!

:)

^I actually turned down Brown as well for a few reasons. The first was I had just applied there to please my parents. I never really wanted to go there anyways and to be honest, I was shocked I even got in.

I also turned it down because it would have been too expensive. My parents offered to help pay but to me the price wasnt worth it. Also, I’m not a big fan of cold weather. And finally, and most importantly, I thought Emma Watson was going to go to Yale. Unfortunately she ended up at Brown but she dropped out this year so its not a big deal. Lol

Turned down UCLA. Put down undeclared and didn’t expect to get in. Weighed my pros and cons and decided that UCSD would be better.

@Avib0y

I totally agree with you. I didn’t feel like Berkeley was a place I saw myself. I didn’t apply though, but had I got accepted, I would have gone to UCSD anyway. And you can do better than Emma Watson. ;)

Lol. Thanks Kings… I’m actually aiming for Mila Kunis :)

Enough said.

Lol. As a tennis player, I can respect your decision. She’s definitely the hottest girl to ever pick up a racket.

umm aren’t you guys kindof forgetting

Ehh… I’ve seen her without make up before. You can never go back after that

How did you apply for scholarships at UCSD? Is is automatic with your application for admission?
