Did Anyone Hug The Mailman Today!

Oh yea. YOu get choice of whiteworks white, ivory white, or white on white. And then you get selection of caps ... dixie cup or for the ladies, dixie cuppette. You do get your choice of size though. ;) MREs come in ... multiple flavors.  ;)

Hehe. Silly me.

I had heard that the payment of 2500 was waved this year...any word on that???

So are we all sure its July 2nd now? Mine said June 27th, but I got it in December...

Also, does the Permit to Report package usually come as soon as you send in the letter of acceptance (signed) or does it come in the spring?

I heard it was waived also via my BGO

Yea, we've all heard that. But that rumor then begs the question of how the USNA would fill the $3m hole. Make that $12million over 4 years of plebes.

For the 2012 parents, here's to its truth. I confess to severe skepticism at this point in time as the up and down chow situation appears to be a function of the Academy working to scrimp a few extra urrestricted bucks from its food contractors.

Color me skeptical about this alleged act of administrative generosity. I'm betting they'll be "waving" it into their coffers from your old man's.

Air Force does not charge it...do they just keep more of the cadet pay over time? Do they have less uniforms to purchase at USNA and USAFA, as WP is charging it...and it's up to $2900.

The admissions calender on United States Naval Academy - Home Page shows Plebe Induction Day as 2 Jul 2008

Huh. Mine was dated 14 December and says that the class of 2012 will be sworn in 27 June 2008.

You know, as I think about it, I THINK that's how this whole thing got started. Our boy's mom hugging the mailman ...

Oh well, at least he's got the so called "free" education ... I know ... One nickel at a time to where the sun doesn't shine ... :p

when does the permit to report packet come in?

it said the packet comes mid-april. i still dont understand what it means that you choose your own uniform colors and meal preference?

he was joking.

I just got home and found a large yellow envelope hanging on the side of my mailbox as it was too big to fit inside of it. Woo Hoo, only 5 more months to go...

Calendar on the admissions page states: June 25th http://www.usna.edu/Catalog/Dialup/2007-2008calendar.pdf

Daughters appointment letter states June 27th (received this past week)

USNA Home page has no published I Day dates (checked today)

There you have it take your pick to which you want to believe!

No hugging here. DoDMERB just displayed my waiver denial from USNA. Just as I feared. No nom to USMA, no waiver to USNA.

regarding the I-Day date confusion...

I called the Admissions office this morning. Yes, I-Day has been changed. It is now July 2nd.

ahhh, a few more days of freedom!

hooyahmicah,

Can you try ROTC/OTS route? Sorry about your news, maybe there is still another way.

I believe the deadline for ROTC has passed. Not 100% sure on that.

My MALO at USMA is trying to finnagle me a nomination. In any case, I'm going to finish my application for USCGA.

If all that fails, I currently have full-ride offers through forensics (speech and debate) for William Carey U, West Texas A&M, and partial offers to UT, Western Kentucky, and Kansas. After high school, I had academic and minority scholarships to Nebraska, Kansas, UTA, etc...I'm not sure what the scholarship offer is exactly, but I was approached by Stanford, Harvard, Duke, Penn St., and a few other places when I was coming out of high school. I'm not sure how many of those I could get back.

If all else fails and I go the civvy route, I will probably do OCS. It will take some real soul-searching to avoid applying for USNA a third time and go the civvy route, though :)

Sorry to dampen the story here! Back to our regularly scheduled programming...who else has been hugging the mailman?

^^^

I'm sorry to hear about your waiver denial, especially since I am waiting for a medical waiver myself.

The deadline for NROTC is 31 Jan.
