dude, my cc is like in the middle of nowhere with desert all round with no sign of human activity. i go to mt. san jacinto which is pretty near to hemet and temecula. but i used to live in cerritos where it was totally different from out here. much more asians, much more academic competition ( i mean, a real competition with those crazy 4.0/1600 geniuses), and to a certain extent modern architecture. love that cerritos library. covered in gold titanium, looks like disney museum in la or the guggenheim balboa.

i really don't know if i like ccc life. i think i like the cosmopolitan life of the city better where there are all kinds of restaurants. vietnamese food, chinese, indian. yes indian food!! cool. isn't there many middle-eastern cuisine in la? i think the winery in temecula is really boring. south asian culture is really more comfortable because of no restrictions!!

but i think i wont have to bear ccc life too much since i'm experiencing it for only one year!!! good for u, sauron!! yes, thank u!!! i envy u!!! it's okay baby...it's all okay!!! no, it's not okay. shhhh...

sauronvoldemort: I never knew you went to msjc! Yeah I miss vietnamese food, there isn't much within a 20 mile radius of where I live. Do you go to the menifee or san jacinto campus?

My current main CCC, which shall remain nameless, is pretty much a meth rehab facility for current and former meth users and their kids. The main focus, and expenditures, are in the Human Services department (a self fulfilling discipline, if you ask me) and Nursing/PreMed. In order to get my AA in my major, I had to take classes at another CCC. I was amazed at this other CCC how much more challenging the classes were and how much more mature the students were (and I don't mean age-- the students at my main CCC are middle aged and older and act like children and abuse the system, the students at this other CCC are just out of high school and ready and eager to learn).

In spite of this, I think it's served me well.

lol dh3 you're funny
you actually took time to explain what C stands for...that was funny :)

i also go to CCC, but I loved the experience there.
yes, i agree, social life sucks
but i learned much more than i expected from ccc.
it was a valuable experience for me..
and i don't regret coming here
but one another downside i can think of is transferring...

you HAVE to transfer if you wanna pursue in getting a degree.
my ccc is affiliated with many UC's, there's a lot of guaranteed programs
but i really didn't want to go there so i had to look for alternate routes..

and i don't know what i'll do if i get rejected from the schools i've applied to.
i have to think about that seriously because it's very likely that i'll be rejected from both schools i've applied..

other than that and socializing and people looking down on you,
I loved my ccc. :)

^ walnut i can never tell if you're being sarcastic or not but i think its true to an extent...i even looked down on myself because i was attending a cc but i grew up and got a new perspective of things? Don't know if that makes sense but ya.

I'm hoping to transfer out next semester, so i'm a bit uneasy about the new atmosphere (even though everything will probably turn out fine).

You know what's funny though, all my friends tell me they can't understand if i'm being sarcastic or not when I talk to them face to face either.

yes walnut, people look down on you, and that is totally true.

if you hang along w/ ccc students, you're not gonna sense that too much
but other ppl who have not gone to ccc before tend to look down on ccc students..
that's an inevitable fact i guess
i know there are some really 'bad' cc, where they give no education and no anything,
but there are some really good cc's where you can get a lot out of..
and that's what's gonna make your cc life valualbe.
still, you gotta look out for some horrible ccs because ppl tend to make friends with some serious slackers/druggies and never get out of it.
i've seen it happen... so just a little warning.

anyways, people do (whether they say it to your face or not) look down on cc
and there's an extra belittlement for me, coming from an asian background.
(i'm sure you've all heard how asian parents obsess over ivies..and other big names.)
but of course, it doesn't matter if ppl look down on you or not
as long as you get what you need and live your life your way :)

Oh ya if you wanna see some belittlement in action, check out some of the threads I created months-years ago. It was probably deserved, but anyways I guess i proved many people wrong and re-affirmed the people who defended me by turning my cc experience around.

You can totally see it even in these forums, mainly the transfer forum, everyone talks about the top schools....HYPSYISSSDFS (or whatever it is), UCLA, CAL, ETC.. I know for a fact that there are people who lurk but are afraid of posting because of the environment that this community has.

Maybe thats a good thing that everyone has such high hopes in their education, and i'm not saying they don't deserve it...obviously looking at their stats they deserve it. Maybe it's good that we hold everyone to a high standard but maybe it isn't here? I don't know i'm just rambling its 5:14 am and i have 2 finals today......sorry if this was hard to read but you get the point hopefully

Pros: Some of the girls here are HOT. Like nice face, good body (especially the upper area).

Cons: I don't talk to those HOT girls.

But I've really gotten over all of the 'cons' when it comes to community college and I don't really face any stigma when it comes to being a community college student. Not to mention that one can actually omit his or her community college past after he or she gets his or her degree.

I have a friend who goes to UCSB and he tells me now and then that I should have gone to UCSB instead of community college. But a friend of mine visited him once and told me that the girls there are mediocre. I've seen some of them too and I don't feel like I'm missing much. And the party life there isn't so extreme if you're all about being in a good major and having a good GPA.

As for social life? Well, I don't hang out with any CCC people although I talk to them in class and around school. I hang out with friends from HS who go to another CCC and with friends that didn't even continue on to college (they're more fun anyway.)

Oh and I have a friend who goes to UCLA and he spends the weekends (leaves on Thursday actually or did this past Winter Quarter) back at home and he hangs out with his old HS buddies. And he's a psychology major so he pretty much reaps the social benefits from UCLA because he doesn't have to drill himself into his work like the south campus majors. And he spends his weekends at home!

Anyone can walk to whichever school they want to transfer to and they should notice that they aren't missing too much. Oh and you don't have to be a student at a certain school to participate in any parties at all (I guess you just have to have friends who know friends who host them if the parties are on campus though.)

Oh and I really think it depends on the CC in regards to cons. If you go to a good one, you'll find a good staff and a pretty good student body. I overheard someone the other day saying "I actually had a lot of friends at UCLA before I came here." I think he attended UCLA for a bit and decided he'd do his lower division here, I dunno.

i've been a little down lately because when i came to ccc, i thought i'd be the smartest (because i competed with the 4.0/1600 nerds in high school), but i realized that some are very knowledgeable and perhaps equal my intelligence!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. MUST FIND WAY TO RE-INFLATE MY EGO!! i need people to admire my greatness!!

Sauron, the Lord of Art, has received "divine" teachings. He's an unstopppable geeeeeenius!!! Perhaps we may one day equal his intelligence...perhaps :D

Mine is hella ghetto. A lot of students are returning and ones who are not traditional college age (nothing wrong with that) and its too much like a high school. In fact, there was like a big fight between these two people earlier today, in which one of the guys pinned the other against a railing and tried to strenglehold him by the neck.

Also, the TAA's/TAP's here are nothing like at Diablo Valley or SF City, which have the most in norcal (aside from maybe american river in sac).
