man, we should get acceptance just for being so damn inquisitive about life

Perhaps we should compare average stats of no links versus links. That might elucidate a bit more.

woow it's so cool how you can search classes and everything. ok yeah, i think comparing stats would be helpful. what format?

maybe just
Links?:
Did you get the email about when to check your decision?
SAT:
SAT II:
GPA/Rank:
Extracurriculars on scale of 1-10:
Hook:

Just a general view of the strengh of each applicant pool. (link vs. no link)

i think it's important to include whether or not you applied for financial aid too

also include whether deferred or not

Yeah, sure, lets compare stats. I'm sure it won't amount to anything, but I need something to keep me busy.

I'll start off. I think we should do class rank, SAT/ACT scores, big ECs, hook (if any), major awards, or anything else that you think either helped/hurt your app.

Fandangoya - Yes, I have LINKS.
Class Rank: 28/375, competitive class.
ACT: 31 (no SATs sent)
ECs: Science Olympiad (Captain), Environmental Club (Co-Pres), School Newspaper (Editor-in-Chief), Media Center Technician, Math League, NHS
Awards: 1st in States for Astronomy last year + some other science olympiad rewards, Published in local literary magazine, some other stuff
Hook: Legacy, although that is not really a hook anymore
Misc: Did indepedent research with a physics professor all of the last summer. I made this a big part of my app and he wrote me a recommendation as well.

Opinion: I think my class rank or grades (transcript has bunch of Bs) will hurt me, but hopefully some of my ECs would be able to help me. I don't think I'm an auto-reject, but I don't think I have as good as a chance as lots of other applicants.

I applied RD and did apply for Finaid.

I'll go next.

I have links.
Deferred ED.
Class Rank: 16/585 (2-3%)
SAT: 710 verbal, 690 math, 690 writing
classes: most challenging; already have taken 6 aps and two ibs; 5s on all aps except one 4
ECs: creative writing (sent in more than 20 poems); piano; yoga; founded new club at my high school with friends; inordinate amounts of tutoring
minority status: hispanic (Cuban)
Misc: philosophical, deep thinker, extremely idealistic, essays -- going out on a limb; teacher recs: nice, but who's aren't?

Opinion: I think that my SAT scores are not exactly helping me. I haven't done any summer research type activities that would make me stand out. I think it depends on WHO reads my application or has already read it. No idea what it means to have been deferred relating to the RD.

Oh, and I DID apply for financial aid.

Links?: Yes
Finaid: Yes
SAT: 680 CR, 560 M, 650 W (these alone could kill the theory that links mean something)
SAT II: 660 Literature, 660 History
GPA/Rank: 3.98 – 3 out of 139
Extracurriculars on scale of 1-10: theater (really involved, lead roles), ballet, violin in local orchestra, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, NHS, peer mentor
Awards: a lot of school awards, 3rd place in state science fair
Hook: parents went to RISD (not really a hook…)
Misc: good grades in Harvard SSP classes that relate to my intended major (political science, IR), camp counselor for two summers

Opinion: No one from my school has ever gotten in and quite a few have applied. My SAT’s are super low and I am weak in math. I had really good recommendations and a great interview but I'm not sure how important either of those are.

On the financial aid requirements check page what does "satisfied" mean under the status section? Anyone? Anyone?

perhaps also an other category---like if you got a likely letter, are a recruited athlete etc.

No links
No email on decision time
SAT: 2400
SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 Biology M, 770 Literature, 750 US History
GPA: 101.45 Rank: 2/210
Hardest classes available (4 AP 5s so far, independent studying 2 this year, will have 9 by graduation)
ECs: Tennis (1st singles), Horse backriding (~10 hours per week), 4 leadership positions etc
Recs: spoke to intellectual curiosity
Deferred from Princeton ED
Weaknesess: Unknown school, no hooks
no fin aid

I think "satisfied" just means you sent in everything that is required to apply for finaid. Like the forms and stuff.

lol this is funny, i got deferred from ED btw (applied for plme, didn't check the box)

I DO NOT have links or THE BUTTON

Class Rank: Top 5%, 5 aps this year (5 and 4 last year on ap chem and euro)
ACT: 35 Composite
SAT IIs: 800 Math II and 760 Chem
ECs: All-State Math Team, Princeton U. Math Contest Winner, American Regional Math League A Team, AHSIMC winner, 240 hours of colorectal cancer research (published a paper), 400 hours of volunteering at hospitals and nursing home, varsity tennis, president of math team and young democrats

Misc: Sent in my research abstract and artwork

DIDN'T apply for fin. aid..maybe it's all about the fin. aid guys?

it means they have everything they need from you in terms of financial aid documents

Okay, this is telling us absolutely nothing. I'm forcing myself to get off this computer immediately.

Damn Shobhit, how did you get deferred? 240 hours of cancer research, hundreds of hours of volunteering at a hospital....

Very impressive, especially the cancer research. If you were deferred ED, it does not give me high hopes for being accepted.

^^

lol, PLME, and I think not checking the box saying you're binded to Brown might have hurt...only like 15 ppl got accepted to PLME early, and those who did were amazing. Let's see how Regular Decision pans out ;)

what do you click on to see if your financial aid required documents have been all received? I have clicked on the links for financial aid and don't see anything that states satisfied or not satisfied. thanks
