^ It is. A Berkeley engineer/math/stat/mcb/econ/business/chemistry/english/sociology/psychology/ etc... major is more respected in the real world than their comparative majors at half the ivies. Maybe when you get into the real world, you will understand.

Rooster, I know you're mad cus some Berkeley kids ruined your bike during the Big Game. Look, if anything, Berkeley kids just did it cus they saw that your bike could use some more colors because it did not have proper reflectors and was too dangerous to drive at night.

It's better than half the ivies and more prestigious than most of them. The thing that drags down Berkeley is the fact that it's a public school and have to abide to all the guidelines that prevent it from going any higher.

If Berkeley were to become a private school, it would totally blow up Stanford once and for all. Berkeley has more alumni than any other school, over 100,000 more than the next closest UCLA (from UCOP, Berkeley has nearly half a million), meaning that their funding would rise above all the others in a short period of time.

Yes, my DD's roomate turned down Stanford for Cal. The same reason as stated below, she is pre-med and she and her family were looking at her educational costs over the long haul. Just not worth the extra money.

I like how this statistics/economics war is basing everything on ceteris parabis... come on, people who are going to go to Cal over Stanford, most likely didn't apply to Stanford in the first place. Unless there is money involved or an "I got into Stanford but rejected it" trip, if one was set on Berkeley in the first place, LOGICALLY (something that can't be measured with manipulating statistics) it doesn't make sense that they would apply to a school that they personally felt inferior to the former.

"according to a berkeleu freshmen survey in 2003 21 students chose to attend berkeley insted of their second choice stanford."

That's not true. The 21 students could have stated that Stanford was their second choice, but it doesn't mean that they got into Stanford. Take me for example. Stanford was my first choice school. I applied to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and MIT. I got into all of them except Princeton. Princeton was actually my forth choice school. Now, if I put on a survey that Princeton was my forth choice, which would be true, it doesnt necessarily mean that I got into Princeton. It just means that it was my forth choice. I couldn't choose Princeton over Stanford because I got rejected from Princeton. The same applies for those 21 kids in Berkeley.

And anyway, I'm sure Berkeley is a great school, but to compare it to the ivies on the undergraduate level is a bit unfair. I think it's a great accomplishment that a public school competes head to head with other fantastic private schools like Georgetown, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, and maybe even Duke. That's a testament to how great Berkeley has become, and I respect that. However, when you guys make completes and shameful lies that Berkeley is better than half the ivies, you lose all your credibility right there.

I could deal with you spelling "fourth" wrong the first time. A typo, understandable. Even the second time, I would have let it slide. But 3 strikes and you're out, buddy!

(Most people would reply saying something about your "grammer," and thus create a comeback for you, but I shan't make such a misake).

Rooster is not going to be happy until everyone admits that Stanfurd is head and shoulders above Cal, and certain Cal posters aren't going to be happy until rooster and his ilk say that Cal and Stanfurd are equal. I feel like I'm on a merry-go-round.

actually, I hate to sound arrogant, but I never met anyone from Stanfurd that was smarter than me. They were all dumber. I did meet one or two that I felt was better than me at analytical in terms of blending data and qualitative issues from MIT though.

Anyways, I would never say this in person, but its the internet, so I can ramble about stuff I would never say.

^ Don't be offended. I was talking about the cardinals I met in person. and yup, a bunch of them were under me. They were lazy, so I had to fire them.

Anyway, I snagged a top internship position at Lawrence Livermore Labs from a Berkeley candidate. I love stealing jobs from you guys in your own backyard. :0
