Did anyone receive financial aid information with acceptance?

So... Received my official GW acceptance in the mail! To anyone who hasn't received it yet: it's pretty nice :D Very blue.

However, one tiny little problem: I wasn't told my financial aid package whatsoever (except a pretty nice scholarship). Did anyone receive a package? If not, does anyone know when it will get mailed out?

Thank you.

D received hers today. Yes, it was very blue and a very expensive printed package - we didn't receive any financial aid, but D received a Presidential Scholarship, which was noted in the letter in the left flap. There was a folder with a big picture of George in the right which described financing options and an invitation to accepted students day.

I thought the folder of Washington was a very nice touch, and of extremely good quality, too!

As I recall, when D applied 2005....financial aid letter came separately, just a few days after the admissions packet arrived. This was in the days before GW had their online notification system.

Thank you very much for the information, CelloMom! Now I can stop worrying :)

Thanks CelloMom! I didn't receive any info either... except the generic stuff in that folder.

i emailed them on saturday when i got my packet. i got a reply ealier today that said:

"Need-based financial aid arrives separately from the admissions and merit aid packet, so you should be receiving information on further financial aid in the mail shortly."

oh.. okay..does anyone know if the presidential scholarship is the highest one?

So, if there was no merit aid in the packet, there will be none coming separately?

S got $15K engineering scholarship, waiting for rest of package. They really need engineering students.

SO: if you poke around hard enough on their website you can find your work-study info online (S got $2200). But that's it, not the rest of your package.

Did anyone got merit-aid that applied as an int'l student???
I got my acceptance package but nothing about a scholarship which for me is as bad as a rejection!

I have the same exact question as Kevin's mom, GW is the most expensive university in the country, and im not getting any financial aid.

kandan and kevinsmom: A question on the "Colonial Message Board" on GW's website answers your question:

Q: When do we find out if we are being offered any sort of merit based scholarship? Does that information come with our acceptance letter or is it sent separately?

A: The financial aid awards (including merit based awards) will be coming in the mail sometime at this end of this week or early next week. There is no way to check the financial piece on-line.

Thank you strandlib!

Now I'm really confused! I just went on the message board and read this as the latest entry:

Q:I have read many other forums, and many of the students who received a merit scholarships say it was in their offer of admission packet. If there was no mention of merit based aid in our admission's packet, does it mean that we did not receive a scholarship

A:You assertion is correct. The office sent out all of the merit based admit packets last week and most students should have received those already (or within a few days of today). If there was no mention of merit, then merit was not awarded. However, the financial aid packages were just sent out yesterday and hopefully should be received by all within a week to ten days (for those who were eligible).

I guess we won't know until next week and people actually received their financial aid mails...

I am also thoroughly confused especially since i posted the question kadi refers to on the colonial message board. Im relying on you guys because my mail is very slow out here in chicago (I just received my admission packet today).

kandan....west suburbs....horribly slow....

Based on the answer to that question on the Colonial Message board, it does not look good for merit aid. If I read it correctly, the only aid packages that have not been sent out yet are need based. I did ask a follow up question to clarify this that has not been answered yet. We did not even fill out the FAFSA, because we know we do not qualify at all. Our EFC is so high. Where is this money they think we have!?

kevinsmom, not filling out FAFSA may have been a mistake. Most schools require FAFSA to be filed to be considered for merit aid.

GW is not one of the schools that requires the FAFSA to be considered for merit aid. In answer to the other question, most schools take a high EFC to mean that you have resources you can draw upon to pay for tuition. I know some people don't feel they can draw on these resources for whatever reason, but that's just the way the system works.
