did anyone take calc AB course but took the BC test??

was it hard/a lot of extra work? and is calc bc hard in general?

Bump (I want to find out too)

It's what I'm doing right now. Not that hard, but AP Calculus in its entirety isn't difficult to begin with.

It took maybe a month to learn all the extra material on my own. About an hour a day studying, I suppose.

I had to take AB because of my schedule, sadly; I really wanted to take BC. AB reviews trig and precal and covers college calculus 1, and BC simply goes allot faster and covers college calculus 2. I thought I wanted to take the BC AP test, but, as it turns out, I'm a senior :-) and senioritis prevents me from wanting to study for it. If you have time to study, and posess a natural talent for math, then I don't believe it would be too hard to take the BC test. However, if I were you, I would take the AB test, as it covers stuff you are comfortable with, and then I would self study for other tests or work on subjects that require allot of reviewing, as opposed to math "common sense" (such as reviewing verb tenses for Spanish Language or theories for Macroeconomics). I hope this helps.

At my school, in BC calculus, all the AB material is covered in the first semester and the entire second semester is devoted to BC-exclusive material. Maybe it's just because of the way my school facilitates the course, but I think it'd be pretty insane to try to self-study BC if you're only in AB. But then again, if you're really great at math, then go for it!

BC is just extra AB stuff
i heard its not too hard to learn the extra info
my school takes about 3-4 months to do all BC before hardcore review
if u like math go ahead but the thing is, wouldn't colleges raise an eyebrow to see that u took an AB class but a BC test?

wow. I had to cram all the bc stuff in like under 6 weeks for my class. Only two of us took the bc exam.

I'm in BC and like another poster, we'd finished the AB stuff by midterms. The BC stuff, it's true, isn't a LOT of material, but some of it is REALLY hard. I mean, maybe just for me, since this board is full of math geniuses (which I am most definitely not), but sequences and series (for example) is a pretty difficult chapter. If you want to self-study it, go for it though. I'm sure someone could if they wanted to enough... just don't think that because BC only adds on a few chapters that they're going to be easy.

Yes, and...

I got 4 AB subsection
5 BC score.

Go figure. :p

[also, I caught early-entrance-itis weeks before the exam and was playing computer games so I barely studied the additional material. A BS on a polar coordinate integration question made the difference between 4 and 5].

Also, the test is not very rigorous. There are no tricks. The hardest questions on the textbook will be far harder than those you'll encounter on the Calc BC test.

The only thing I really remember being listed as extra was Taylor Series.... I'd think a strong math student could learn the extra stuff.

Get yourself a copy of Thomas' Calculus :-p
