It was a fantastic movie. If it doesn’t win some Oscars, I don’t know what will! Samantha Barks was perfect as Eponine.

I really really really really want to see it. But nobody in my family will go with me (a gaggle of cultural Philistines, those people) and neither will my friends (who believe that the Hunger Games should win Best Picture). The only friend I can think of who would go with me lives 50 miles away… Oh well. Maybe I can get my mom to drop me off by myself.
The only thing I’m nervous about is that one thing I loved about the book was the writing. If it’s just a sappy romance I’ll cry (and not from Samantha Barks singing On My Own…). The potential good part would be that those ten chapters on French monasteries and fifteen chapters about the French Revolution are probably not such big issues.

I LOVED it, definitely the best movie of the year (and this was a good movie year). I think Anne Hathaway was brilliant, and I was pleasantly surprised by Amanda Seyfried.

Favorite songs anyone?

And my opinions of all the major actors and actresses:
Hugh Jackman: did amazing, wow
Anne Hathaway: very believable and vulnerable, there wasn’t a dry eye in the theater after I Dreamed a Dream
Eddie Redmayne: decent enough, but his voice kinda annoyed me for some reason even though it was technically good
Russell Crowe: ugh. He sounded like he was choking on pancakes. And he ruined Stars.
Amanda Seyfried: she has a pretty voice, but her vibrato is very rapid so it sounded odd. But she had a tough job since Cosette is such a bland character
Aaron Tveit: played Enjolras, and IMO the best male vocals of the movie. He was very talented- when he sang Red and Black I wanted to join the uprising lol
Samantha Barks: already gave my opinion, but yeah she was great. On My Own = gold.
Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen: they were awesome, hahaha

Also did anyone notice the cameos from big time musical stars? I swear like half of the Friends of the ABC had played Marius or Enjolras on West End.

As for my favorite songs, I really enjoyed Red and Black, Do You Hear the People Sing, and Lovely Ladies.

“Don’t they know they’re making love to one already dead?” -Fantine

Haven’t seen it yet but I heard Anne Hathaway is pretty good looking.

Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen were the BEST Th

Oh my goodness it was amazing!
I actually really liked Russell Crowe’s performance, seems like I’m in the minority there…

We snuck into a midnight viewing of Lincoln right after Les Mis, and maybe its just because Les Mis was so good, but I think Lincoln kinda sucked. Nominated for 7 Golden Globes?! Too much hoopla over Spielberg if you ask me… :S

@crystal19 I saw Lincoln too, and I agree that it is way too overhyped. I found it really boring, tbh.

And even worse, nobody seems to have put it up online yet :/

I thought it was amazing; definitely one of my favorite films of the year along with Argo, Life of Pi, and Zero Dark Thirty. Tom Hooper did really amazing and I’m upset he wasn’t acknowledged for Best Director at the Golden Globes. I actually would have picked him over Spielberg.

Everyone’s hating on Russell Crowe, but I liked his performance. With Javert, the acting is sometimes even more important than the singing. There’s a fine line between capturing his despair and overdoing it, and I think Crowe hit it on the nail with his performance. No, his singing voice wasn’t the best in the cast and he isn’t my favorite Javert ever (cough Phillip Quast cough), but he wasn’t as awful as some people are saying.

I also was really surprised by Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried! Redmayne during Empty Chairs at Empty Tables was heartbreaking…

I just got back from watching it, and it was AMAZING! New favorite movie!

^I just was kind of let down after watching Gladiator again. It was like, ‘Really?’ And his singing just felt…off. But he didn’t do horrible.

Oh my gosh I loved Redmayne in that scene. That was one of the times when I cried the most.

But yeah, I was basically crying throughout the entire thing…and I would jump at the chance to go through all that again if I got to go back and see it again. Definitely going to get it when it comes out on DVD!

Did anyone else notice that the main working woman who accused Fantine was Mary Cattermole from Harry Potter?

woah… that’s… cool.

“Empty Chairs and Empty Tables” and “I Dreamed a Dream” just brought me to tears. I knew that the cast for this movie was more than capable to pull through with the acting aspect of the play, but I had no idea that all of them could integrate their emotions so flawlessly into song! Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time!:)

Yea I noticed there were a lot of people from harry potter in the movie lol. I loved it! Favorite song are red and black, and look down is still stuck in my head forever. I didn’t expect the whole movie to be singing though.

As a musical fan, I did and I loved it! I felt it was a very good adaptation.
