i'm wonder if the blue and gold opportunity program is in effect and how we can qualify? i visited the site UC Blue and Gold Opportunity and i seem to be eligible... anyone have any information and can clear this up for me?

i emailed UCOP and go a repsonse that I will automatically be qualified. BUT when i emailed UCI, they said that IF i get my Blue and Gold, then I will loose my UCI Grant. ***???

no one really knows that the **** is going on tho.

^^ neither, I think it will automatically be applied. But some schools are trying to get away with it by saying you UCI Grant is your Blue and gold oppurtunity!

here is an email I received:

The answers to your questions are in bold. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to give me a call.

“How will I know if I am approved for the Blue & Gold opportunity program? I have completed my FASFA paperwork already.”

You will know if you qualify for the Blue and Gold Opportunity Program if you receive scholarships or grants or a combination of the two that total at least as much as you are charged in required fees. The Blue and Gold Opportunity Program involves providing gift aid in amounts such that students from families earning less than the median family income in California (around $60K per year) do not have to pay UC’s required in-state fees. When you see your financial aid awards, check to see if the total “free money” is at least as much as the fees. If so, you have qualified for the Blue and Gold Opportunity Program!

Be sure and respond to any requests for additional documentation from the UC campus financial aid offices to ensure that your FAFSA application is complete.

“How will receiving the B&G funding affect my other financial aid awards? Will they decrease my award amounts etc.”

Qualifying for the Blue and Gold Opportunity Program will not affect the total amount of financial aid for which you qualify.

so if cal grant covers all of tuition then the blue and gold opportunity will cover all other expenses like food, housing, transportation, etc.?

loller, Drom my understanding, ur UCSD grant plus ur Cal grant is your blue and gold, but when i emailed the Corporate UC office, they told me it is different. I think there is something shady going on here. I will get to the bottom of it this week

Well if you get Cal Grant A then it pretty much covers your fees but if your fees are above what Cal Grant A covers (which is possible) then you get the Blue and Gold opportunity. Like if you include health insurance and such it will be more than what Cal Grant A covers. Another way is if you are a freshmen and you get Cal Grant B which offers you like around 2k or something for living expenses but it does not give you money for fees for the first year. Then the Blue and Gold opportunity covers for the rest.
