According to boardingschoolreview.com, the average SSAT for Tabor is 65th percentile, and the average SAT is 1850. IS THIS TRUE?? Boardingschoolreview also doesn't give an acceptance rate. Does somebody know?

The stats worries me greatly, since I have been giving some thought to Tabor. Is Tabor really that bad in academics? (The above stat for the SAT is lower than my public school's!)

How would Tabor compare to HADES schools?

[[ Random note: I'm considering Tabor mostly because of it's specialty in the marine sciences, and I have wanted to be a marine biologist for a while. But then again, this changes on a monthly basis. If I ever decided that I'd rather be a, say, journalist instead (which is pretty likely), my whole reason for being at Tabor would be destroyed. Is it worth the gamble? ]]

Sorry for the unfocused post. Anything & everything is appreciated!

Why did you consider Tabor before you found out about this? The fact that on average that Tabor students beat over 65% of the top %ile of students in the nation is seemingly good to me?

Average SAT 0f 1850? Among the top boarding schools I believe Milton (or Concorde, but it’s not as rigorous) have the best SAT of just over 2000 (maybe I am wrong). It most certainly is a good school.

I am almost sure of it that it outpaces your current school by lightyears (as any boarding school would). I wouldn’t worry about the objective reading much, you liked it for a reason.

To answer your question about how it scales to HADES? It depends, on a general scale it is true that HADES will be more rigorous. Don’t go to Tabor thinking you’re going to have an easy time, because you are sure as hell not.

This being said I know nothing about Tabor, except for the fact that you decided to apply for it for a reason, and I take it that your reason is good.

I’m sorry I rechecked, and my public school’s SAT score is less than Tabor’s (at 1762), & I guess my reaction was a bit unwarranted. (It’s laaate!)

Don’t worry… Everyone on this forum is secretly concerned about SAT scores, admission rates, and objective what not even though we care not to admit it… :D

If you really care about the objective outlook of a school (which you should have a good idea, just through the website) then it may be worth looking into Peterson’s guide.

[edited] i think i spoke to soon. I will get back to all of you when i get more information. I am shocked just like all of you - i need more info though before I start talking so that’s what I am doing.

I wouldn’t trust boardingschoolreview, as they said it’s terribly outdated to begin with and also I know that Tabor purposefully doesn’t publish and update their acceptance rates and SAT scores because they don’t want students to base their decisions solely off those types of factors rather they want them to find the right type of school. I went there and I don’t even know the most recent admissions data, but I know that the acceptance rate is consistently lower than Kent, Hill and Canterbury but is more comparable to Loomis Chaffee.

I applied to, was accepted to and turned down some of the HADES (if we have to use that acronym) schools, the academic environment at Tabor was something that I connected to in a way I didn’t find at those other schools. I know and have friends that went to those schools, thought that would be enough to get them into their top choice school and ended up being devastated when acceptances came out, it’s not all about HADES and that’s why I hate grouping schools like that. It seems like so many kids on here are getting so focused on the name rather than the school and refuse to realize that to get into a top university these days (the reason most kids, or parents, are applying to boarding school) you’re going to have to work equally as hard no matter what prep school you go to, but if you work hard it will pay off.

That being said, if are even thinking of being going into marine science, not applying to Tabor would be a terrible mistake. The marine science program is unparalleled anywhere on the New England prep school scene and even in the nation. Though these programs are incredibly strong, I went to Tabor and (regrettably) never took a single marine science class. I am now in my final years of college and Tabor undoubtedly is the reason for my success and as PrincipalV stated, a Tabor education is not a cakewalk.

If you must compare it to the HADES, however, Boston magazine posted a US News and World report style ranking of MA schools and Tabor was between Deerfield and Concord, on a list of more than 50 schools.
