Did College Niche change their site?

Hello CC,

I recently visited the Colleges Niche site and noticed that it might have changed. I remember the site having a great student review section. You could review comments from classes to clothing people wear to the party scene. With all internet items, you need to take each comment with a grain of salt but I did enjoy some of the insight.

Did they do away with that feature or am I just losing my mind?

A lot of changes on niche. They deleted all the Canadian schools for one thing.

I have been unable to find the reviews as well. It’s a shame because they were really useful in determining potential social fit for my child. I wish the site would reinstate them.

You are absolutely right. That was also my favorite feature; now there are a few general student reviews, but you can no longer browse with specificity, I.e. how is Greek life.

Yes and I hate it more than this electiom

Thanks everyone. Yes. I am not a big fan of it either. Looks like a total redo and it does seem like other sites. it has lost its uniqueness and so one has to ask “why even visit the site”?

Niche still has the quick “terms” for each school?I find it helpful to look up the “three things” that describe each school. Gives you a good handle on what the school’s about.

I hate the changes too! You used to be able to compare colleges in your list in a chart with a ton of different data points, rankings, number of students, food, dorms, etc. Now I see no way at all to compare colleges

I’ve moved over to using Cappex – a lot more useful than the new Niche.

I was disappointed with the changes as well. Can’t say I hate it more than the election though, @soyunchico.

Cappex doesn’t have info on Canada’s top universities either. [-(

I noticed that, too, although unigo seems to have some similar information.

Yes, and I hate it. I specificaly liked the old feature where you can compare schools. I don’t know what they were thinking.

Yes, they did.
They got rid of the Chance Me feature. I enjoyed using it, since few people actually gave accurate chances!

I have twin DD’s who referenced the student reviews all the time; since the removal of that feature, they haven’t been back…

Yeah, they got rid of all of the helpful reviews and the Chance Me feature :frowning: Very disappointed with it.

When I look at a college and scroll all the way to the bottom, I can see the reviews that were there before the change (and you can click on them to get more). Am I missing something?

@MamaBear16 The reviews used to be separated by specific category, I.e. inclusiveness of Greek life, professionalism of financial aid office, how nice are people on campus, etc. I believe the reviews they have now are cut down from the numerous they used to have. (So now there are fewer, more general reviews.)

Yeah. Some reviews are there but it is the category breakdown that was key. You could click on something that interested you. Like Greek Life to get an idea of how greek life is viewed on campus. Now they just seem to list some random reviews.

I am disappointed. I really liked the site. Too bad they changed it.

Niche is still a very useful site. For one, it is the only ranking site that uses BOTH methodology AND ACTUAL STUDENT OPINIONS when ranking schools.

Most other sites are just assumptions or use blind statistics but tell you nothing about the actual education on the site. It’s my new go to site - replacing US News - for looking at colleges.
