this is probably the reason why you should take IB…if you’re a genius there, you’re a God that everybody likes…if you’re average, no body bothers you…so there’s no reason for any IBers to “Dumb” themselves down

^Exactly. Well, now I see a purpose in me taking IB instead of some crappy Cambridge program.

I act like an idiot.

If you knew me you would think I was dumb. I’m not, but I prefer acting stupid, no one expects anything of you.

I do it every day.

^^ This .

My teacher just gets tired of me raising my hand all the time…

Definitely!

I don’t want to fit in with dumb people, they scare me too much…

this is stupid, it’s possible to be dumb and talk formally/proper. It’s also possible to be smart and talk street/informal. I think the problem is you talk about irrelevant Bee Ess that no one is trying to hear instead of everyday stuff like sports, music, etc.

No, I would not want to “fit in” with a group of people that would shun me as I am.

I don’t believe myself to be abnormally intelligent, though. I pride myself on being knowledgeable in certain things, but “intelligence” is a poorly defined concept that broadly covers so many things that there is no way I could make a proper assessment of mine.

However, I refuse to act as though I have impaired cognitive abilities, unless it is for a very good reason. “Fitting in” is no such reason.

Trying to act stupid to fit in is, well, stupid. So mission accomplished, I suppose. Still, I feel bad for anyone being shunned for who they are.

haha, yeah when i’m with my black friends, i act totally different.

@BillyMc, You’re blowing this out of proportion. Please settle down.

I did this in public school.

At my private school, heck to the no. People look down on you if you aren’t getting good grades.

Hahah not really dumb down, but I talk about different subjects with different people.

“They say come down cousin, but I flatly refuse I aint dumbing down nothing.”

Nope, people are actually surprised when I tell them my avg. They say " I thought you were dumber"

I guess they only think the stereotypical “nerds” are smart.

Yes, but hiding intelligence is stupid. I realized how much potential that I was wasting.

I did, until I discovered how stupid I was compared to people who were actually smart (and I don’t mean they take AP classes), as in USAMO qualifiers, etc. No point in acting even dumber than you really are to fit in with the even, even dumber people.

maybe not dumb down (okay, fine, a bit), but I definitely tried to look more social somehow so my recs wouldn’t say I’m totally isolated… maybe not in every class, but enough so I’d have at least one rec that wouldn’t say I’m a total social outcast.

If only I spent more time with real people and less on internet forums…

^ i objects to being called unreal.

Good call Harry.
