I asked this question in the 'Transfer' forum and got little replies, so I think I should ask in the proper forum.

I went to a CC after high school, from 2005-2007. I did horrible. I got a lot of F's, 2 W's and even got dismissed from there. I don't know what I was thinking but I can't do anything about it now.

After those many semesters, I went to another CC in another school district. My overall GPA is close to 3.3-3.4 and I still have some classes to take - so I can still raise that.

Will my past CC always haunt me? I know I have to submit those grades in an application, but no one will accept me with those grades? My overall GPA with the past CC will be less than a 2.3! So what can I do? Stay at my current CC for another year and take classes to raise the GPA? Will that work? Even though it may barely reach a 3.0. No one will except me with those grades.

I want to apply to film school, such as USC, UCLA, Chapman, etc. and applications will be due November/December for Fall 2009. :(

you should check out an art school with a film program, like RISD. they won't care about GPA or scores

So because of my past experience with that CC, I can go nowhere else?

Well, you appear to have turned yourself around. I suggest you research what schools you are interested in and contact their admissions department by phone. Speak to the admissions counselor, explain your situation, and ask what they would like to see from you in order for them to give you serious consideration. Also, if you can make a connection with someone in the film school itself, they could probably also help you learn what they would be looking for from you. Good Luck.

If you continue a strong upward trend in your grades, you have a shot. Maybe not at a school as competitive as UCLA (especially if you're OOS), but you should definitely give it a shot. What about a school like Emerson? Less competitive academics, great film program. Find a way to show the school that you've learned your lesson and are dedicated to your schoolwork (some epiphany you had, whatever) whether it be through your essays or an additional statement. Don't make excuses (unless you have a good one -- illness, family, etc) but do show them that you acknowledge your past and have learned from it. Good luck.

Talk to the transfer coordinator at your current community college. They have seen your situation before, and can advise you on how to best package your transfer application. Depending on your intended major at the four year school, and the coursework you have taken at the new community college, given that you have turned your grades around and are applying yourself, you may even be guaranteed admission somewhere through a specific coordination agreement between your CC and the university.

Good Luck!
