I applied to Madison a little more than a month ago, and today I was looking at my application and under the intended majors I put "Finance" and for school I put "school of business". Was that a bad idea to do that? And does that mean I applied for the business school or do they just want to know what I plan on majoring in?

You apply to business school after your freshmen year so they just want to see what you are planning on doing. It should have no affect on the admission decision.

You get admitted to the university as a whole, not a specific college/school/program. Your acceptance will not depend on what you put for a possible major. These major et al choices will come into play when you are assigned an advisor for SOAR.

The only potential benefit is that if you have very high stats the B School might offer you direct admission. It’s a newer program they are ramping up quietly. Maybe a few dozen this year.
