When I attended the Stanford information session, the adcom said flat out applicants must send only the requested materials and information. For example, they ask for only two letters of recommendation, and if you send more than two, it will be considered a big negative for you (as an indication you don't follow instructions or respect the protocol). The Stanford app said specifically, do NOT send a resume. Unfortunately, without thinking, I used the common app I used for all of the other schools I applied to and it included my resume. I didn't think about this for the longest time, but now I'm obsessing I won't get in simply because I attached my resume when they asked me not to. I've received likely letters from two ivy's and duke, and have been admitted to six additional great schools (none of which I applied EA) so I know I'm a competitive candidate. Do you think my oversight in sending my resume was a fatal mistake and I can write off Stanford? Or will they simply ignore/overlook it? My college counselor said it could very well keep me out.

college counselor?
hahahahahahahah

No, you did not.

Don’t worry about it. My son did exactly the same as you (included a resume as part of his common app) and was accepted. Good luck. You’ll know for sure in a few days.

I’m sure it was absolutely fatal.

Stanford admissions officers will hire mercenary ninjas to go to your house and kill you…

In all seriousness, my friend submitted a resume w/ her app and was admitted SCEA this year.

You’re being paranoid. And your college counselor probably doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Stanford is more competitive than Duke or lower Ivies. Quit making excuses.

Thank you PrincetonDreams, stbentia and quomodo, that makes me feel much better!

Hey ivyboundhopeful, I attached my resume and I was accepted SCEA this year. I can’t imagine how showing all that you have to the admissions officers would lower your chances. Best of luck!!! :D

Uh-oh, I attached a resume AND sent in three letter of recs lol (though for the second error it was a Naviance/CommonApp/counselor glitch)

don’t worry!!! you’re not going to get rejected for submitting your resume!

you’re going to get rejected because the acceptance rate is 6%

^ Hahahahahaahahahhaa. I should be crying because that applies to me, too. But…epic response.

@wheatbread : Love your answer haha (Makes me laught)

I’m the 4th person in this thread who submitted a resume and was accepted.
If you get rejected, it won’t be because you sent in a resume.
