I got a $10,000 "Entering UG Scholarship" from UC Davis. My parents make +$150,000 a year. I have a friend who makes less than me but the most he got from any college was $4,000. This doesn't seem right to me. Did I enter something wrong or did I actually get this much money?

If this is a MERIT based award, it has nothing to do with your family income.

That is confusing. Davis does call its need-based aid “scholarships”.

However, if your stats are strong for the school, it may be a merit scholarship which has nothing to do with FAFSA. And/or, are you a female eng’g student?

Some of the mid-tier UCs are offering merit to entice students to choose them over UCLA, Cal, and UCSD.

Here’s an example of another student’s need based aid to Davis

Entering UG Scholarship - $4604

If you think it is a NEED based scholarship then you might have done something wrong and you don’t want to get nailed for it later. You should probably sign onto the FAFSA site and review your entries, or perhaps you printed out a summary? If YOU filled it out you might want to have your parents look at it. Do you know what your EFC was? That alone should give you an idea. If you are one of a few children and only one in school then I would expect it to be over 20k…unless your parents own a business that lost $ on paper or something…If it is low, then maybe you entered 15,000 instead of 150,000.

Someone with more useful and accurate advice will probably answer, so be sure to check back. Meanwhile, post your EFC from FAFSA.
