Did I doom myself by taking the ACT?

I recently got my scores back from the ACT - 31 composite, 35 English, 33 Math, 31 Reading, and 24 Science :( I was content with my SAT scores but thought I might give the ACT a shot since people said it was easier.

I have a 2200 on my SAT, however, and I am applying to several accelerated/combined medical programs to which I sent my ACT scores. I'm afraid admissions offices will see my terrible ACT science score and instantly deny me, when in fact I didn't know what to expect out of the science portion (a fault on my part).

It's too late to cancel the scores, and I'm really freaking out. Did I doom myself by taking the ACT?

i dont think its too bad

Meh, your SAT is really good, so I doubt they’ll do barrel rolls over it.

A 31 composite ACT is a pretty good score, not as strong as your 2200 SAT but it won’t kill you. Most colleges say they’ll use only your strongest scores, which in your case would be the SAT. And don’t worry too much about the ACT Science section. Some schools look only at the ACT composite. Of those that look at ACT subscores, some disregard the Science score completely; your English and Math subscores are very strong and will only help you if they’re considered. Of the colleges that do look at the Science subscore, most will understand that it’s not a good indicator of your ability to do well in Science. It’s basically about reading graphs and tables and drawing appropriate inferences from them; some describe it as a kind of “reasoning” test more than a test of substantive knowledge in science. Lots of people bomb on that section the first time they take it. Don’t stress over it. Let it be a lesson to you, though, about the dangers of sending test scores to colleges “blind”, i.e. before you’ve had a chance to review them yourself.
