what did you get in percentiles?

& it depends on what school you’re applying to. if it’s anything under… er, 75 overall (or 80?! i don’t know) for schools like HADES and St. Grottlesex, then yeah, probably, but for schools like… erm. I don’t know, but lesser-known schools, maybe not? It really depends…

oh, and im applying to st. marks school.

Regardless of what grade she is in, the score is guarantee to be very low.

I am curious though what grade you are in, perhaps it would be slightly different…

Being brutally honest.

Retake it.

DiveAlive: If by “lesser-known schools” your referring to Kent, NMH, Canterbury, and such with acceptance rates in 30-40’s, even those have rather high standard of SSAT themselves (Average of 70-High 60’s last time I was informed). I believe an 18XX is below even the 50th percentile for any grade level from 8-11.

I second askjeeves.
A friend of mine got 1935 and is only in the 29th percentile, but she’s applying for the 11th grade.
If you are below the 50th percentile - and apparently you are - you would have to be extremely lucky to get into one of those good, but “lesser-known” schools such as NHM.
I’m sorry.

St. Mark’s School’s average ssat is 82 percentile, with an acceptance rate of around 30. it’s probably too late to retake the ssat, seeing as their application deadline is 1/31. however, don’t give up hope. there are always going to be people who have low ssat scores and are admitted. so keep up hope, and don’t think about the situation until march 10th comes around.

Eek, that wasn’t what I meant! & by “lesser-known schools” I meant schools like… The Delphian School. Schools that you’ve probably never heard of /:
(& Delphi’s a great school! it’s just… not well-known. at all. haha)

kent & NMH are great schools, and they’re not really andover/exeter-tier but they’re still high up there, so… i meant obscure schools. or reformitory schools. or military schools. >_>

PS: @ poster: isn’t it a bit late to re-take the SSATs, if you’re applying for the fall of 2009? you could probably try SSAT prep and apply next year… ?

Can you prove you are smart in any other way, and show that in a head to head comparison with other applicants? That is exactly what the SSAT does. If the answer is yes, then no you are not screwed.

If you really got those scores unless it was a mistake or a terrible day I do not know how you can show them that this late in the game, though.
