I got an email from UC Riverside saying "An important message from Dean Reza Abbaschian" and it says

"Thank you for your application to the Bourns College of Engineering. I am pleased to say that based on an initial review of your credentials, our college has recommended to the UCR campus that you be admitted. Congratulations on an outstanding high school career.

You will be hearing from the UC Riverside Undergraduate Admissions Office in January. Please remember that your admission to UC Riverside is contingent upon your continued success during the remainder of your high school career."

Does this mean I got in, or if it doesn't, what does it mean?

Congratulations on a truly outstanding high school career. Because of your performance, you are being recommended for admission to the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) at the University of California, Riverside.

You will be hearing from the UC Riverside Undergraduate Admissions Office in January. Please remember that your admission to UC Riverside is contingent upon your continued success during the remainder of your high school career.

Although this is not an “official” acceptance, you will be accepted in Janurary. Both sons received the same emails and were accepted Mid-January. Congrats to all.

My friend got a similar email but I just got one saying:

“We’ve received your application and we’re reviewing it now!”

I have a 3.7 GPA/ 32 ACT and I’m worried that this might mean I might not get into UCR?! This is my safety school and it’s making me somewhat worried…

No, it is not a bad sign. You might want to check your spam folder, since many of these type of emails may end up there. UCR is trying to attract high performing applicants and enticing them with renewable scholarships to get them to commit early before many of the Cal States and UC decisions are out. If you have competitive stats, you should be fine, just hang in there.

@Gumbymom It’s not in my spam folder. And I was considering UCR a safety because I have a 4.3 UC GPA and a 34 ACT. I was hoping to receive a scholarship from them.

@ShaneBlakeEy I also applied to the 5 year MS+BS program (for BME). I’m thinking that’s that reason that neither of us received the scholarship email.

You do not get a scholarship for accepting early. If you received a scholarship, there should be message in your UCR portal. High stat applicants accepted in early January last year either received the Presidential for $10K/year, Chancellors for $5K/year and Highlander for $2500/year. I noticed that no one has posted that they have received any scholarships this year but UCR has posted acceptances a week earlier this year. Maybe the scholarship recipients will be notified next week.
