Oh, and thanks, riverrunner, your post made me smile.

could I read your AFI one>?

it was pretty good, good luck!

Are your ECs really "extra-curricular" if they give grades??

Good luck though, my friend.

Extracurriculars should be something that is outside of the graded requirements for completing a high school diploma... so if it is graded then it is not extracurricular.

Debate and Academic Decathlon both count as elective classes at my school, as is the common practice in my area at least. Will this be a problem?

This shouldn't be a problem at all. At many schools, the kids working on the yearbook and newspaper take a corresponding course for credit/grades, but those still are considered ECs.

I get the feeling that Yale might defer people like you, TheWerg, if only for this reason: you've only had to deal with two APs on your schedule thus far. They'll like that you're taking six this year, but might want to wait for your midyear report to give you the nod, particularly if you're at a traditionally less competitive school. Your test scores and ethnicity might be enough, but even your ECs are kind of coming on late. They might want to see some of your senior year performance.

I'm being a little harsh perhaps, but I think that's CC's job. With an A-laden midyear report, I would guess deferred/accepted.

Ah, thanks for your honesty. Thus far, I've taken pretty much the hardest courses available to me, but not the hardest courses available on campus. The problem comes from this: in 7th grade, I had an Algebra I teacher who really hated me (no, I'm not making excuses), I got a B-, and had to retake Algebra, so until this year I was on the "normal" math and science path, rather than "accelerated". This year, I skipped Calculus AB so I'm caught up. However, that limited my number of APs in the past.

I could understand if Yale is reticent about it though, thanks for pointing that out. Actually, that could potentially be comforting if I get deferred. At least I know that so far, even with all my APs, I'm easily pulling A's so I should have a solid mid-year report to show them if that does happen.

You had to retake Algebra because you got a B-?

She gave my parents a long speech about how I was immature and not ready for harder courses. So, the whole next year, I had one hour a day of reading time.

I hate teachers like that... I had one like that in 9th grade English... I understand what you mean by not making excuses, sometimes that just happens
