Did I get into Kelley?

I applied for direct admit into the kelley school of business. I went online today and the website says that I have been admitted to Indiana University. Does this mean I was rejected by Kelley but accepted only to the liberal arts college? I am confused because I had an uw 3.8 gpa and 30 ACT

What that means is that you have been accepted into undergraduate studies. IU then forwards your info to Kelley and you will find out from Kelley in about 4 weeks. You should have no problem being accepted direct, I had similar stats and found out I was a direct admit a few weeks ago. The acceptance comes in a thin envelope, so dont worry when you get it. Hope this helps.

what are the qualifications for direct admit to kelley? I'm in the same boat as rg25264, I got into Indiana but no word from kelley yet...

what do you think my chances are?

90.5 UW GPA
1380/2100 SAT
All AP/Honors schedule

thanks

From the Kelley Undergrad website:

"If you have done exceptionally well in high school, you may qualify for direct freshman admission. You will automatically be offered admission to Kelley prior to entering IU if you meet these criteria:

Admitted to IU Bloomington and indicated business as your intended major

ACT composite score of 29 or SAT composite of 1270 (including only math and critical reading sections)

Top 10 percent of high school class or 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) "

If you meet all 3 criteria, you will be offered direct admission. Watch your mailbox.

thanks, i just got the mail notification today

I got my admission packet today in the mail to IU, but still nothing from Kelley. So they will send it later?

Based upon how long it took giantsfan509 to get his/her notice, you'll probably get your notice in about another 5 to 10 business days.

Also, depending on your high school record, you may be invited to join the university's honor program, the Hutton Honors College.

Here is the info on how that works--and on how to get in if you aren't invited to join as an incoming freshman:

Information for Prospective Students

I heard from one of the advisors for the business Mitte Honors program, the 2012 class is expecting over 800 direct admits, well above the 700 or so admitted for the previous year.

:/ I got my direct admit letter in the mail end of last week.

mactonycw, do you know if that's offers of direct admit, or actual expected enrollment of direct admits?

My estimates are that only 260 to 300 direct admits enroll each year--and I'm wondering if I should be revising that estimate based upon what you posted here. (I think that what your advisor said is related to direct admit "offers"--and that some of these students may actually enroll in other schools. Considering that only about 1150 students graduate with undergraduate business degrees each year from IU-B, I'm presuming that's the case)

P.S. Students in the Kelley school gets a lot of posts on this Indiana University board, but as indicated above they make up a very small portion of the total IU student body.

If you don't get in by direct admit, what would be the alternatives to get in?

Calcruzer, I'm sure they are talking about expected enrollment. I remember at the beginning of last semester they had all the Kelley DA come to the b-school for a welcome speech and free goodies and we filled two lecture halls (300 people each), so more or less 700/800.

Also when I did my freshman council interview, I talked to one of my interviewers and he compared his DA class which was about 300 to mine(700) and was amazed at the increase.

Nonetheless, KSB is getting bigger each year it seems.

Wow, that is an amazing number.

According to Indiana University's Common Data Set, only 1176 students graduated with undergraduate business degrees last year, (you can get this number by multiplying the total undergraduate degrees awarded on page 2 (6,181) times the % of undergraduate degrees in business from page 26 (19.03%)).

According to this Kelley site:
School Profile: About Us: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington
there are 4,184 undergraduate students in the Kelley school. I'm presuming that this includes about 4 years of "direct admit" students and 3 years of "regular admission" students.

It used to be that only about 20% or even less of the business students were admitted through "direct admit" status in 2002--or about 230.

But if it's going up to 700 to 800 like you said, this means the number of students getting admitted as direct admits has more than doubled (and possibly tripled) in the last five to six years.

Also, if they start admitting 700-800 "direct admit" students each year and don't increase the number allowed into the Kelley school each year, they will soon have more "direct admits" than "non-direct admits" in the undergraduate business program.

Therefore, I think you must be correct--they are probably planning to increase the enrollment at Kelley over the next few years.

knifey,

Here are the requirements for admission to the Kelley School of Business, both through "direct admit" and also after enrolling at Indiana University:
