Did I get snubbed

My guidance counselor told me that it was because there out of state standards are very high..tell me what you think.

My gpa is a 3.7 unweighted and a 4.0 weighted.

I took AP World History in 10th, and got a 4.
AP U.S. in 11th, received a 3.

This year, im taking AP Physics C:mechanics, AP Comparative Gov., AP Lit., and AP Calc AB.

My sat's were a bit weak. 1210/1790
SATII's: Bio-560
World History-690

ACT: 27

J.V./Varsity Baseball
J.V./Varsity Basketball
National Honor Society
Tri-M (music honor society)
Key Club
Chamber Orchestra
Intramural Sports
Model U.N.

I actually felt that UF was a safe school for me, and looking back and comparing scores it really should be.

a bit weak?
I was rejected w/ a 1310

well compared to the other schools I got into it was a surprise. I consider maryland, binghamton, connecticut, geneseo and unc chapel hill better.

Uh, dude no offense but I do not how you could compare your scores and see that UF should be a safety. Their average SAT hovers at around a 1290, your GPA slightly below average, and you did not take that many APs. UF also likes to see a lot of leadership, and you didn’t state if you were an officer/captain of any of those clubs/sport teams.

Plus, you’re OOS which makes things harder. Unless you are first-generation, a minority, or come for a low-income family, I really could not see how it would have been a safety. I am sorry that you got rejected but you have to research schools and be realistic with your chances. UF is not a safety.

I know in-state people who applied to UF with higher scores and GPA than yours, and more extracurriculars than you, who got rejected.

Your scores are below average even in comparison to in-state. Don’t be so arrogant.

i think its ur OOS and ur scores that killed you

I know instate people who were rejected with 1400+ - WGP well over 4.0
6,7,8 AP classes.

Besides UNC, what makes those schools “better”?

my mistake…in terms of leadership I was captain of my J.V. baseball team in 9th and 10 grade. Im also VP of my school orchestra.

Yeah im first generation, with a family whose dad does non-union construction and whose moms a waitress.

UF Middle 50%
CR-570-680
Math- 590-700
ACT:25-30

My CR: 590
Math:620
ACT:27

Yeah its near the lower tier of the “average” scores…but I got into better schools with better standards in this area, meaning something was helping me out.

Im really not sure how im arrogant such a stupid comment. I didnt get in to this school so how am I bragging? My sat scores are just that good I might as well let everyone know how good I am…

I took all the AP’s offered in my school except AP Bio and AP Psychology. I wasnt able to take an AP until 10th grade, where the max was one. I would have taken a dual enrollment course in English and or Spanish, but that wouldnt have fit into my schedule, not my choice. I do the research and my guidance counselor agreed. The thing that hurt me is that fact that 95% of students are in state.

I don’t see why you’re complaining… if you think the other schools are better, then be happy you were admitted to those.

UF does a “holistic” review of your application and maybe they just didn’t think you would succeed as a gator… it doesn’t mean you were “snubbed”…

Out of state students have to be well above average in order to get into UF because as everyone knows, UF gives priority to florida students.

I was talking better academically…uf has the all around college experience. Great sports, people, activities, academics, etc. Im complaining because it top one of my top choices, disappointment sucks. Sorry if im coming off as annoying, but I really wanted to be here. I know that my sat’s dont tell the true story. I might possibly transfer in the near future so we will see what happens.

as said before, u really have to be above the averaeg if you are OOS

srry man

UF is a safety for very few OOS students. You would need to be in the upper 75%tile in both UF GPA and SAT or ACT scores to even be considered a match when applying OOS. For you it was a reach. It is good to have reaches, but you don’t always get accepted.

UF considers only core courses for their GPA calculations.http://cyberguidance.net/college/recalgpa.pdf.

Yeah thats what I was saying…the fact that im OOS really hurt me. I new they were very in state orientated but I didnt know until after I applied that 95% of their students are in-state. All I knew was that people with lower scores and less qualified make it into UF, but that was years ago. The fact that the economy sucks makes state schools that much more appealing to in-state kids. Thanks for all your comments.

And my other reach was Notre Dame. Yeah thats one hell of a reach but that was my dream for a long time. It was worth the try.

UF is 95% in-state and only 5% out of state.
That means:
ONLY 322 slots open for out of state students!

The SAT numbers for that 2007 enrolled class were:
Bottom 25%- 1140
Upper 75%- 1360

You need to be in the top 75% to get in.
Just go look at the “rejected with over a 1300 sat” thread.

Most of those people were in-state!

How do your stats compare to those other 322 OOS students?
Probably not very well.

Sorry.

UF should never really be anybody’s “SAFE” school. I hear that UN Chapel Hill is beautiful. You should be thrilled to have that as an option. Congrats on getting in there.

ND- not to pile on, but UF would have been a reach for you as an OOS. Also, class rank appears to have been a much bigger driver for UF, with a top 10% being the way to get your ticket punched. Were you top 10%?

UNC-CH is awesome. Are you from NC? Because getting in there is also tough for an OOS?

Yeah I was top10%. I was 19/318.

And no im not from NC, im from New York.

Thanks for the compliments about UNC :)

where are you going? The problem with OOS State Univ like Chapel Hill is that FA can be weak.

State schools are getting really full this year too… I got rejected from Chapel Hill with a 2160 SAT and a 3.6 GPA, as well as being the Student Body President, School Technical Director, and lots of EC’s… I’m also in state… I’d take Chapel Hill if I were you… It’s a great school too… Don’t worry about UF… Good Luck!
