Alright, I had an awful trimester (3.4 GPA.) I started a sport at the beginning of the tri and it wrecked my study pattern; I often didn't get home from events until late at night, two to three times a week, and I had a hard time in general. I'm not trying to make excuses; I know people deal with a lot worse and still get all A's; but the point is, I got thrown off.
However, last year I got all A's (I believe I got one B+ by like 1/2 a percentage, but it was freshman year and I did very well afterward.) I've been aiming for Dartmouth for a long time, but I'm relatively certain that all hope for that is over, based on my current grades. Can someone offer input, please?

Well, in six days you’ll know…

Hm? 10char

It’s way too early to tell if you’re just a sophomore. It’s going to depend a lot on your SAT/ACT scores, but one trimester with a 3.4 GPA shouldn’t be too harmful if you can bounce back and have good grades from here on out.

Why Dartmouth?

Thanks for your help! I’ll bounce back. It was a rough trimester, but things will be a lot better from here on out, I hope. When the fall sports season ended (there were about three weeks left in the trimester by then) I did fine, but it wasn’t enough to get my grades back up. However, it’s just more motivation to work harder. :)

And my answer to the “why Dartmouth” question: I love everything about the school. I could go into details, but as a basic outline of why I want to go, I’ll say that the area it’s located in is very rich in nature and the student body seems to be involved in it a lot (many students in the Outing Club, Appalachian Trail passes right through Hanover.) The academics are amazing, and I know I could keep up with the academic rigor (though this thread seems to suggest otherwise.) I wouldn’t apply to a college just to leave the state, but the fact that it’s out-of-state is a plus (I won’t be setting myself up for a job/life in Michigan; with the economy here [though it’s bad almost everywhere,] that’s the last thing I need.)
It’s kind of a weak explanation of why I want to go to Dartmouth, but I don’t want to go into too much detail.
(Please excuse my parenthesis, by the way :P)
