Hi, this year I reapplied to UCI and received an email saying they want me to verify some things. They wanted my 2013 UCI eVerification (done) and my paren't 2011 tax info in the form of either online IRS data retrieval from fafsa, or a tax return transcript. The due date is by the 24th, and I was assigned this on the 10th.

I log into Fafsa and they wouldn't let me change my 2011 info. So I started the 12-13 fafsa, and it only asked about my 2011 info, which I used the IRS retrieval for. Few days pass and it says the information is still needed. And I realize I just sent in my 12-13 fafsa without the 1040 even filed (obviously)... Did I just mess something up, or am I okay?

Would I have to file for a tax return transcript as well? It says it could take 10 days to arrive, and with it being around the holiday, I'm worried I won't get it in time to send to UCI. Help appreciated!

Wait, sorry. The email I got clearly says "The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships would like to alert you to new information regarding your 2012-13 financial aid application. " Isn’t this this year’s aid? I applied for Fall 2013. Why would this information be looked at by UCI at this time?

You have said you reapplied to UCI for fall 2013. Have you attended UCI or another college previously and if so when? Or did you apply previously and then not attend?

Yes, the 2012-13 FAFSA is for the current fall 2012-spring 2013 school year and it would ask for 2011 tax information. The 2013-14 FAFSA for the school year starting fall 2013 can’t be filled out until 1/1/13 and will ask for 2012 tax info.

The best thing to do if you don’t understand the email and what it’s asking for is to call the UCI finaid office and get clarification. If the email specifically is asking for 2011 tax info, it would be the 2012-13 FAFSA that would include that. Why they are asking for that if you are not currently attending college is something to ask them.
